Well, since the release date.. anyone pick it up?
A good friend of mine used the RC version of it and loved it. Apparently even the RC version was stable and quite usable as a main operating system. If I can find boot camp support for it, I'm highly considering buying a copy to play around with in boot camp.
Thoughts?

Windows open beta isn't for me. Six months down the road after early exploits are fixed? I'm totally on it. If only my Vista platform at work would be changed soon,,,

I only wish Microsoft would fucking acknowledge that I did buy this laptop in August and allow me to obtain that free copy I'm supposed to receive.
But no, apparently the serial number on my comp doesn't work, and there doesn't seem to be much I can do.

Bought an edition through school for $30, got it installed this morning. It looks pretty. Nothing's installed, though.

I think it's cool that people paid Microsoft for Vista so they could fund a working OS that everyone would also have to pay for.

Windows 7: An improvement on Vista?
Windows 7: Still way behind both the commercial and non-commercial competition?
Windows 7: Too Little, Too Late?
Millions of peaches, peaches for me?
To all of these questions, the answer is
Yes

It'd be pretty cool if they stopped trying to make Windows less like MacOS for the people who, you know, use Windows because they don't like MacOS.

It's funny to think that for the reasons people hated MacOS a decade ago, Windows has now "out Mac'ed" Mac OS. Me, I've always been a Mac user, but one thing I did acknowledge, especially during the late 90s, is that Macs did put a lot of control over users in their OS. Now, it's MacOS that feels really open and unconfined, but using Windows makes me feel like I'm stuck inside a cardbord box... with Snake... and he's smoking again... and what's that in his right pocket, oh god!

I'm not sure how accurate that is, Prime. While OS 9 certainly was more closed off than OS X, it still had a lot of stuff going for it that I never found with Windows. The only really closed-off section was with any web tools. Windows was leading the charge for internet software and the Mac was kinda floundering until around 2001. I still remember fiddling with resource forks and such to hack programs easily in OS 9 though. Applescript and such also made automating tasks a breeze.

Supposedly Win7 is going to be more customizable than previous Window OSes. Really, I wish both Windows and Mac would open it up a bit so you can customize it without too many third party apps (which generally aren't freeware). If Win7 turns out to be as customizable as some claim, I welcome it.

companies using profits from one product to fund the development of another?!
this could revolutionize things

I bought a Mac about three months ago, so I'll pass on Windows 7. Not that I dislike Windows or Microsoft, but because I like not having to pay for virus protection that doesn't really protect the computer from viruses very well.

maybe if your point wasn't made laughable by hyperbole I would have addressed it instead of giving you a smartass response
then again I probably would have just thought to myself that if you were going to make a one line attack on vista you should have made it at an appropriate time and place (such as in a vista thread about three years ago when doing so wasn't old hat)
