That picture was frightening.  She looked like a 15 year old boy who just raped an 8 year old or something. 

Still, with the economy being what it is, I'm not surprised that people will pull stunts like this for a quick buck.  Medical and insurance fraud's being cracked down big time.

I sometimes donate to cancer awareness campaigns but never to individual cases. This lady disgusts me.

My parents prefer more direct approaches to charity than money; they think it's more beneficial to give food, clothes and other 'real' things to local orphanages or Mosques.

Donating to charities is all well and good, so long as they're reputable organizations like the Salvation Army or the Red Cross or something along those lines.  But giving to individuals is the problem.  From homeless people who use the money for booze to people like this who fake grave illnesses, individual charities are always a crapshoot.  Like the article says, look closely at who you're giving stuff to.
