What have these rpg's got in common?
Dragon Quest: Hands of the Heavenly Bride.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
Chrono Trigger
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
FF 1V
Sonic The Dark Brotherhood
Zelda The Phanton Hourglass.
Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story.

I bought and played them this year, but I did not finish playing any of them. Some I must have got more than half way through and then lost interest, while others  did not even manage to keep me interested for half of the game.

I am now a quater way into Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story and the same thing is happening, it is not holding my interest. I have just read Kyle's review of the game and I think this might explain things.........

I may never fully comprehend the problematic factor or missing element, but I believe the answer lies in the pacing of the quest. There is no strong story motivation for progress; goals are undefined

I want to like rpg's. I like the idea of liking and playing them and every time I strat a new game I think 'this is the one I'm going to complete', but I don't.

I am only talking here about DS/DSi rpg's. The ones that I liked the most were:
Dragon Quest: Hands of the Heavenly Bride. Sonic The Dark Brotherhood & Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. That seems an odd choice to me.

Maybe there are to many Rpg's on the ds and I have been buying because of the hype and not because I know much about the game. Am I alone in this or am i missing something?

I think I have more RPGs not finished than finished.

I think the things with RPGs are that they are very fun in the beginning, new characters, worlds, game systems to learn, but after all that is over, if the story or gameplay aren't great, then there isn't any motivation to finish.

Most other genres are much shorter in game length, and have clearer goals to accomplish as a motivating factor.

Games off the top of my head that I haven't finished.

PSP:
Dragoneers Aria
Dungeon Explorers (I think that's what it's called)
SO1
Brave Story
Disgaea
Class of Heroes

DS/GBA:
TWEWY
FF6
EO
Dark Spire
FF4 DS
Izuna

PSone:
Bof3
Bof4 (Stopped at the last dungeon/boss)
Castlevania
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
FFT
Lunar SSSC
SO2 (Stopped at the last boss)
ToD
Wild Arms

PS2:
AT2
Disgaea
FFX-2
Grandia III
Romancing Saga
SH:FTNW
Nocturne
S5
VP2

Wii:
Baroque
Opoona

360:
IU
Last Remnant
Blue Dragon

Probably countless PC rpgs I've never finished either.

I feel similar, I have many games that I just haven't finished. I don't feel like listing them all but I'm guilty of not finishing:

Persona 4 (I keep saying I'm gonna finish it next week or something akin to that)
Valkyrie Profile (One irritating dungeon really sapped the motivation for me)
.Hack G.U. Vol. 2 (got burned out after playing it right after playing the 1st)
Lunar 2 (Same reason as previous)
Tales of Vesperia (Dropped it after Persona 4 came out and just haven't touched it since)
Fallout 3 (Ran out of steam)
Wild Arms 5 (I liked the characters a lot, but the story was paced funky, so I lost motivation).

These are the most recent ones, but I have plenty more unfinished games.

RPGs take a hell of a lot of time, something I don't really have with like 1000 DVDs to watch, 100 books to read, and potentially going back to grad school on top of 40 at a minimum hours of work a week.  Oh, and some volunteer work.

Too many to list. Sometimes I think I must like buying games more than actually playing them.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that at this point it would be easier for me to list the games I've actually finished over the ones I haven't.

Hell I'm still grinding away at DQ VII and FFTA2, nevermind the games I've set aside just to finish those two.

And while I don't have any problem with DW7 (outside of some annoying brickwalls), FFTA2 is just one mindless slog through about the same 4 or so missions * 300. It doesn't help that there really isn't anything interesting about the game at this point either. And its a good thing I wasn't expecting a plot because this game sure delivered on that.

Not counting RPGs that I picked up and realized early that it wasn't for me so less than an hour of play time.  The following, I probably played for at least 10 hours or so.

Kingdom Hearts - forced myself to play through what i did
Valkyrie Profile 2 - i hit the chapter 3 wall
Odin Sphere - pretty graphics and interesting story, but horrid gameplay
Growlanser HoW - got boring
Ar Tonelico - stuck in a temple, read online that i need to create an item, but i've never liked item creation gameplay
Final Fantasy XII - if it weren't a main FF, i'd have dumped it earlier
Persona 3 - repetitive and boring single dungeon design, didn't like 4 much either
Xenogears - I vaguely remember an underground mech boss that i couldn't damage, gave up
Final Fantasy VI advance - lost interest after kefka does his thing and brings ruin

I might try Xenogears again if it's released on PSN and I can play it on my PSPgo and add to my 80+ finished RPG list.

Most games are not good to beat.

Most games are too long.

I need a concise and intense game experience.

Most games have horrible pacing and there comes a point that the story stagnate thus only leaving battles to enjoy and if those have lackluster gameplay itīs not fun anymore...

I do not half-finish games.

Games grow afraid of my prowess and hide themselves in fear.
