You press the space key when the meter is full, or as full as you can get it, then it's just a matter of pressing various arrow keys in correspondance with certain letters, like "A", "C", "D", "S", etc. Those aren't precise, but one of those should work.

Great flash game. I'm amped for Excite Truck.

The game is pretty easy, though the infinite mode (or whatever) captured my interest for about 10 minutes, after which I got bored and I realized there wasn't any super-bonus for going way past the end of the universe. I killed myself and skidded for about another 10 minutes. Great stuff.
