Any spherical RPG worlds?

Are there any RPGs whose worlds are actually spherical instead of donut-shaped? If you don't know what I'm talking about,
read this TVtropes article
. I don't know why they do this, it's sort of weird and unrealistic, and I think modern technology could allow for truly spherical RPG overworlds.

My memory's a bit foggy, but I think Contact's world is spherical.

I sort of question this. The maps make sense as spheres if you just rearrange where the poles are.
I think.
I'm pretty sure that FFVII's map in any case is built onto a spherical surface and the map just has a weird project.

No, there is a fundamental difference in the topology of a sphere and the topology of a torus (aka donut). This isn't a question of topographic projections but rather how the sides of the map connect to each other.
Personally I do not know of any RPG worlds that are spheres.

None really are but FFII comes close in terms of landmass.
Btw, Der Jermeister. You are a cruel person to be spreading around the internet plague known as TVTropes and you should feel bad for yourself for ending many a productive afternoon with your link most foul.

That's the thing though. I think FFVII's overmap actually WAS built on top of a sphere. I can't find any good screens of it now but I'm pretty sure the horizon has a very definite curve to it--one that indicates a spherical world, even though the minimap is decidedly toroidal.

I'm pretty sure Final Sphere Quest V: Quest for the Spheres 2 was built on a spherical world

Adding a horizon visual effect is not the same as changing the topology. Actually, if you think about what causes a horizon then it's not unreasonable for a torus to have one too...well, at least for some locations on the torus. There would also be places where it curves up.
But anyway, the horizon effect you're talking about is just a graphical trick. It has nothing to do with the actual topology.

I think Final Fantasy VIII had a spherical world, the overword map was even spherical, though most of us switched to a flat map because it was more comfortable to use. Still these might be graphical tricks, but it seems a lot more likely than FFVII. It at least thought of itself in spherical relationships from one landmark to another.

Well sure, but can you really recommend that game to anyone? The series jumped the shark in Final Sphere Quest 3: The Cylindrical Trapezoids.
