I'm trying to come up with a list of five JRPGs that came out in 2009.

I can think of three.

Wait, I just noticed this was limited to JRPGs. What the fuck, just make it RPGs so we can fill a slot with Dragon Age.

I can only think of four RPGs I bought this year:

Rune Factory Frontier
Atelier Annie
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky

I liked all of them, to varying degrees, with RFF being my favorite of the bunch (and being neck and neck with Rhythm Heaven for my overall GOTY).

Yeah, this list would only have one game for me, Demon's Souls, and I'm not sure I can even call that a JRPG. You open this up to all RPGs and I can think of a lot more.

I haven't played anything recently that really belongs this year.

I've only played this year that are RPGs:

Persona 4
Valkyria Chronicles
Tales of the Abyss
Xenosaga II and III
FFVII, FFVIII, Wild Arms 2 (PSN)
Crimson Gem Saga (not finished, but i believe this came out this year)
Star Ocean PSP

Let's see...Ar Tonelico II, Crimson Gem Saga (OK, it's Korean but definitely in the JRPG style) and...uh...can we count remakes?

This year was definitely laking in JRPGs.  Too many had extremely slow localization which has pushed them to early 2010.  I can only think of Fire Emblem SD and Muramasa if that counts, probably not.  Poor 2009, but 2010 will be nice.

I only played 5 JRPG's this year so this should be quite simple

  • Suikoden: Tierkries
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
  • Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
  • Phantasy Star Zero
  • Knights in the Nightmare

SMT would probably be my favourite (it's also my first SMT game).

I really liked Half Minute Hero.

That's about it really. I do intend to play Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story before the end of the year. Otherwise, this would be a lot easier if it was open to all RPGs.
