And maybe Sakura Wars will have some competition for console SRPG. 2010's looking to be a great year for gaming all around, so it would definitely be nice not to say "No soup for you!" for once. Along with stuff like Fragile, FF13, and Mass Effect 2, we'll also be seeing Infinite Space, Alpha Protocol, so many others.
I'm expecting a lot more out of the indie scene as well. After playing Swedish developer Time Trap's sidescrolling platformer Emberwind
http://timetrap.se/emberwind/
(cool game) and hearing that they may have an RPG in the works for 2010, I'm excited.
I don't know where the graphic adventure scene's headed, be it visual novels or point-and-clicks. Hopefully something good will come out of the woodwork and surprise me.

Dragon Quest IX won't win because a dozen better games will come out in 2010, including DS titles like Infinite Space and Strange Journey.
It stands a strong chance with someone like me, but in a year like this I can definitely see more people opting for the other titles. If MegaTen didn't pick up in popularity though I'd think it still stood a strong chance at portable GotY, it may yet anyway since that's probably more palatable to the staff on a whole.

Gen, I'm reading the Fragile quote as sarcastic because you can't question Demon's Soul and Muramasa as RPGs then predict Fragile to be RPGotY 2010. In terms of gameplay, it looks pretty similar to Demon's Soul. lol
Well, how I feel in that regard will depend on how I feel after I play the game.

I think with John, Tooker, Kyle, Eric, Ashton, and I who are all absolutely psyched for ME2, it certainly will have enough people on staff to vote for it if it is worth getting GOTY.

...unless something more appealing comes out. Mass Effect 2 as a contender for multiple awards is a given, but there are plenty of other contenders too this year. Regardless, 2010 will be an exciting one and I can already anticipate that RPGFan's 2010 GoTY feature will have some heated battles.

Keep in mind too that ME2 could be a disappointment after anticipating it this much. Alternatively,
Subject Zero brings the whole fucking thing down

Yeah, it's easy to tell that it's going to be ME2 vs. FFXIII already, but regardless, that's what editor's picks are for all the personal enjoyments. ;)

ALTERNATIVELY: No game can be a disappointment, because none of them were expected to match up to ME2 anyway.

The DS looks like it is going to have a really good year for RPGs.

Just like 2009. And 2008. And 2007.
