But what's worthwhile to note here? This 1986 title is one of Square's first games, one of Uematsu's first game soundtracks, and the direction (and apparently story?) is done by Hiromichi Tanaka, who would go on to do FFXI and FFXIV.

This is a text-based adventure (a la Snatcher) with some accompanying graphics. OLDSCHOOL.

I think its the crude pre-SNES programming, alarming sound effects, and sluggish/struggling interface....  but this game terrifies me.

I've only seen one case of 5318008 but otherwise this is tame as hell.

Although, I do miss the days when the future meant women almost always running around in glorified swimsuits. Right up there with flying cars in the unfulfilled promises of the future. FUTURE!!! *Shakes Fist*

JESUS: Fearful Bio Monster. There's just one moment of pseudo-nudity. It's from 1986, and has Koichi Sugiyama (from Dragon Quest) as a composer. In fact, in JESUS you can hear a bit of the Dragon Quest I field music playing on one scene.

(PS - there's a Japanese YouTuber with a Let's Play series of JESUS ... I believe they call them "ALLPLAY" instead of "Let's Play" ... it's a 4-part series).

A few years later they did Angelus: The Devil's Gospel, which was much the same sort of game.

I'd really like to play these pre-Snatcher super-old games someday. Another one that's caught my interest in the last year is Hokkaido Serial Murders: Ohkotsk Vanishes.

Among all these games I've seen, the Square one looks bloody awful. Tons of re-used animations. Without text in a language you can decipher, the graphics are of no help whatsoever.

If I meet Uematsu at Anime Boston (and I very well might), I intend to ask him if he remembers ALPHA.
