I've been wondering what the average persons plays per day.  I myself play anywhere from 1-4 hours per day, and for some reason I think this is too much.  I'm 23, have a girlfriend, hold a regular job, and have a mediocre social life.  How long do you guys play?

Depends on the day of the week.  I travel, so I'm only home three days a week.  I wake up before my wife those days, though, and play between 2 and 4 hours until she does.  It's my only home console time.  I generally play some casual stuff on my iPod Touch while I'm waiting for things later in the day - like if I order takeout and it's not ready yet - but not hours and hours.  During the week while I'm away from home, I probably put in another 1 or 2 hours on portable platforms (again, these days it's mostly my iPod, although I've been hitting Torchlight on PC lately too) while I'm sitting around the hotel at night with nothing to do.  Sounds glamorous, no?

It's fairly likely that I play games more than I should, but I realized that a long time ago and decided that since there's no way I was going to change that, I might as well use it.  That's why I write about games for this site, and for another before I started here.  I've got just as much social life as I want, but I'm 34, so I'm probably not looking for the same level of social life you would be.

Depends. On holidays I play at least 1-3 hours a day, but lately I haven't even though about gaming on the working days. Mostly play about 2-3 hours on Friday night and 4-5 hours Saturday morning.

It suits me. Actually, when I have a lot of free time in my hands and decide to invest more time into video games, I get disinterested for some reason.

I actually have a very methodical system of playing games, I try to play each I'm working on for at least an hour a day, and I work on other hobbies such as art, writing, and reading.

Mine depends on Sports Seasons:

During the winter (not a lot, big into college hoops): ave about 20 min/day

During the summer: 1-2 hours/day

Depends on a lot of factors in my environment; I have no set "gaming schedule".  This Saturday I spent a good 7-8 hours playing Bayonetta, and Sunday I spent a good 6 hours playing Glory of Heracles.  Last weeked I hardly played games at all.  This week I'm going to be hardcore busy trying to get all my school supplies together and all my assignments finished on time, so I'm probably not going to get much gaming in.  Next week hopefully I'll be more prepared and I'll get lots of time in on the busrides between campuses.

Though to answer your main question, as long as you're not getting in trouble at work/failing classes/shunning people to play more games, you can't "play too much", just like you can't read too much or play sports too much.  As long as the other aspects of your life are working for you, the rest of your time is yours to spend however you want, and if you want to spend it playing games that's your perogative, and if anyone tells you otherwise they're wrong.

I don't have a set gaming schedule, myself. There are times when I'll play 8 hours for a day, then the next day I'll play something for maybe 10 minutes, then shut it off. Sometimes a week or two will pass by where I don't even touch a video game at all, but the next I would play 3 or 4 hours a day.

Between classes, work, girlfriend, friends, etc... my life is INCREDIBLY random like that. But I do love my alone time for video games.

At this point it's more about 10-15 hours a week, spread out more or less randomly since my schedule isn't quite set.

It's not a lot.

Depends on the game.  If it's a game I really like, sometimes I spend several hours a day and finish it in a week.  Other than Rock Band, which I play every day for about 15 minutes, I go more days not playing a game than playing one.  I'd say on average, less than an hour a day.

For me it depends on the game and the day of the week. If it is a game I'm really digging, between 3-5 hours a day probably. If I'm only mildly into it, maybe an hour a day. It also depends on my work schedule. I work 12-8 most of the time, but sometimes I work in the morning so I go to bed earlier. I never play games on Sundays when the NFL is on. Friday and Saturday are the biggest gaming days for me.

Last semester, probably... probably less than two hours a week.

This semester I can't really say. I actually *gamed* over break. I don't know. Maybe 9 hours a week?

Right before bed, usually. Maybe a half an hour to an hour about 3 weekday nights. Then on the weekends, I'll play for maybe 3 hours a day at most, but only if I'm really into the game. DA:O took me forever because I just didn't feel like playing it. Assassin's Creed II I finished in about 10 days, though.

So maybe 7 hours a week on average.

Oh, though I probably play an additional 4 hours a week with my girlfriend (currently playing Tales of the Abyss).

Lately, I've been making more time for video games, so I would say about 10 to 15 hours a week. This is juggling a job/significant other/social life.

Mine depends on when I get in the mood to play.  I generally get in ~2 hours of portable gaming during my exercise.  Oh and 100 or so history books because there's something about history that makes me all giddy.  Yeah...

I'm like this too. If I can "feel" that I'm close to the end, then I'll play longer that day, trying to finish. However, I only play one game at a time.
