And the idea behind releasing the original before the updated version is to build hype. Mario 3 released a week before Galaxy, and it got everyone into a "Mario game" mood. Same with the Metroid thing, it was actually a special Nintendo event they were calling "The Month of Metroid", they had a bunch of interviews with the developers and "Iwata Talks" specials around the same time as well.
Figured as much. It IS a good marketing strategy!
I also recalled the time where they released Metroid and Super Metroid a month before Metroid Prime 3. Only thing I wondered is why no release of N64 Super Smash Bros before Brawl came out? Sure, Melee is a lot better, but the n64 one started it all.
