What's everyone's favorite map themes?

My favorite of all time is still Main Theme 1 from Albert Odyssey Gaiden.  On three separate occasions I've heard people say it "sounds like Chrono Cross" which is funny to me considering Chrono Cross came out three years after Albert Odyssey Gaiden did.  I love Naoki Kodaka's work.

I was actually going to mention this song and cite your review. You're the one who introduced me to this album. AO Gaiden is much better than the previous two AO titles, at least for music (and probably for everything else as well).

Off the top of my head, good map themes:

1. Chrono Cross (in the "other dimension" side where it uses the Radical Dreamers theme)
2. disc 2 of Legend of Dragoon
3. FFIII (NES, or the DS remake) has freaking awesome map music. "Eternal Legend of the Wind." Yes please.
4. And while we're at it... FFIV, VI, VII, VIII, IX. VIII especially; Blue Fields <3.
5. Wild Arms -- the whole soundtrack is pimp. The map music is part of the pimpness. WA2 as well.
6. SaGa 2 (FF Legend II) -- I can sing this song to myself, that's how ingrained it is.
7. If the opening area "fields" count as map music for the Ys series, I humbly submit pretty much every entry in the series.

Map themes....

Wild Arms II
Sonic Unleashed
Growlanser III
Mass Effect II, when you're navigating your ship.
Secret of Mana, the 2nd and 3rd flight themes.

And by all means, if we are going to get into maps...I'll just leave a note on my some of my favorite town themes.

Wild Arms II
Dark Cloud II
.hack//infection - Quarantine - Mac Anu (Love this town theme.)

I happened to be looking around at iTunes and noticed they had the Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant soundtracks. I do not own the games so I don't know how these sound. Any thoughts on these? Are they worth buying? Without owning the games I wonder how good they'd be.

Loved Infinite Undiscovery ost, thought it was one of Motoi's better projects. Did you listen to the samples for FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: THE CRYSTAL BEARERS? That soundtrack is also up on iTunes. I thought that was a decent soundtrack with variances in styles/genres.

Haven't checked out any other soundtracks based on all the recommendations but will soon. On itunes I noticed Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant and Final Fantasy IX. Any recommendations as to which one of these 3 I should get and why? Again, I don't have an XBOX 360 so I haven't played the 360 rpgs so I don't know which ones to get. Thanks.

Does anyone have the Star Ocean 4 soundtrack? I was thinking of getting that one too but wanted to know various opinions. Thanks.

The only one I can comment on is FF9.  It's a good soundtrack, but not Uematsu's best work.  From what I understand, he was often ill during the composition of the soundtrack (it was 5 disks: the 4 for the OST and 1 of cutting room floor scraps) and was under time constraints.  That being said, there are some gems in there, like the Black Mage Village town theme, which is one of my all time favorite town themes.

The fifth disc is not cutting room scraps. It's mostly music arranged by Shiro Hamaguchi used in the FMV cut scenes. See:
