I want to get Suikoden V, but I'm not sure if it's good or not. I have read reviews on it, but they are very mixed. What should I do? Also, I have the same question about Atelier Iris.

Yeah, that thread's probably the biggest we've had for a long time devoted to a single RPG, and it's got the most views - you should find all you need there for player concensus.

Personally, I think it's worth getting - I just don't think it's better than SuikII, and that the game itself, outside of the story/characters and to a lesser degree music, is fairly bland.

I loved everything about the game but playing it (sounds weird, I know).

I don't wanna get into a long ass paragraph about it, but the game felt like 70% of everything it could have been.  It was all there to be a GREAT game, but felt a bit rushed/half-assed.

It was cool for a little while, then it just got tedious.  Which is unfortunate, since I loved the second game.

You know what, I pretty much feel the same way about it as Dice does. I loved the story and characters, but the actual gameplay left something to be desired. I won't go into the whole loadtimes argument again, but I felt the did take away from the experience, and the interface is too slow and clunky for it's own good. You do get the feeling that Suikoden V would've been a much better game if Konami had just spent a little bit more time fixing some small, but annoying, faults.

I thought the gameplay in this "game" was terrible....I quit little less than half way through I think, because it was just too much work to play through.

Your right, it does sound weird. :]

So many areas could have been a hole lot better.  The battle system is ridiculously generic and offers little to no challenge.  The dungeons are horribly linear and there is often nothing to do besides follow those long corridors while you fight endless waves of auto-battles. The hole interface looked really bad in my opinion.  The camera angles were terrible, as was the entire visual presentation besides the actual cutscenes.  Music isn’t too bad though it’s not memorable.  Yup, about the only thing I found challenging was finding all the Stars of Destiniy (which can be pretty unforgiving at times).

... though, these are just my opinion.  But I really enjoyed the story and characters.  Those 2 things were enough to keep me from putting down the game.

The high encounter rate kill an otherwise great game. I recommend it, but I wouldn't play it again.
