Color me absolutely friggin' stoked. My experience with Ys is mostly limited to Ark of Napishtim. I played through some of Ys III on the SNES when I was a lot younger, but I don't remember much of it. I also own Ys I&II for the DS, but I haven't played much of it. :/ Shame.

As for the Sora no Kiseki trilogy, I've heard nothing but amazing things about it. I'd been hoping they'd localize it. :D

There might be a reason for that! I'd say cut your losses and either wait on Ys Chronicles or get the TG16 version on the VC then get Ys Chronicles if you want to see it remade afterwards.

Falcom's President wants to tell you about Ys and Ys Seven.

Nice interview, get hype.

Well, the port of Ys I&II for the DS is pretty bad in almost every way for a Falcom maniac. But, Ys I&II Chronicles is here to save the day. Since is one of the best ports that you can buy nowadays of Ys I&II (and the soundtrack is great).

As for the Sora no Kiseki trilogy, I've heard nothing but amazing things about it. I'd been hoping they'd localize it. :D

Same here.

Since Ys Seven is coming before the other two, I feel the need to address some things for potential newcomers

Ys Seven is a lot different from the rest of the series, and breaks the mold from a traditional Ys game.

Oath in Felghana follows the Ys tradition of being a one-man army, hacking away in an extremely fast-paced action RPG, and bound to finish it in 8-10 hours. It's short, but extremely sweet and satisfying.

Ys Seven is a lot more experimental, doing a lot of firsts for the series. It's the only game with a party system, actual quests and crafting, and by far the longest of all the games. I clocked in at about 30 hours, and it was only one hour where I get actually lost. Of course, since it's 30 hours, the pacing does feel a lot more dragged out, but it's still a fun ride, and they did a fine job with the party team aspect for the game for their first attempt. It's quite different, but a good change of pace, and it's for the best before they really overuse Napishtim's engine.

And of course, both games have kickass soundtracks.

In short, if Ys Seven your first entry in the series, just remember that it's actually a lot different from the other games. It's still a great game, but it's not the game to be judging the series as a whole. Oath and Felghana and Chronicles I & II are the classics, and are a good representation of what the series is about.

I wonder if Xseed will include part of the soundtrack as bonus?

My hopes were almost lost on these games, first day purchase for me!

Well, in Japan. Falcom packed the limited editions of the new Ys games for the PSP with "mini-albums" and some other goodness with it, for example...

Ys Seven: Ys Seven Original Sound Track Mini

Ys I&II Chronicles: Ys I&II Chronicles Original Sound Track mini (the best mini-album in the Ys series so far in my opinion)

Ys -The Oath in Felghana-: Ys -The Oath in Felghana- jdk Special

So, is possible that Xseed bring this goodness with the games since Lunar have the soundtrack in the limited edition. But, there's also Drama CDs in these limited editions with details about the story of each game (and the story of the Ys series in general), the Drama CD for Ys Seven takes place between Ys VI and Ys Seven (it also serves as a prologue to Ys Seven, obvious). That's what I know, I haven't found the dialogue of these Drama CDs translated yet.

Which is a shame.

I was so excited about this news that I actually registered so I could post on it! I've dreamed of the LoF 6 games coming to the US and being able to play them in English. I've played up to midway of Sora no Kiseki, the first one of the trilogy, with a FAQ and even then, without any Japanese knowledge, it was one of the most fun games I've played in recent years. I can't imagine how much more enjoyable it will be when I can actually understand it. And of course I'm looking forward to the Ys games are coming over too.

This is definitely a reason for me to get a PSP now.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I haven't followed Oath and Felghana and Chronicles I & II closely since by just looking at screenshoots, Ys 7 appealed the most to me. I hjonestly think I'll end up buying more games than just Ys VII from Falcom though. I should really find a Falcom wiki site or something like that.

If you want to find out more about Falcom games, you can check out the Ancient Land of Ys forum (http://seldane.proboards.com/index.cgi) that's a place to talk about Ys and Falcom games. There's probably a lot of info you can find there.

As with everyone else, this news makes me very happy in pants.  My PSP has already gotten more play than any of my other systems since I bought it and this cements its special place in my coal-blackened heart.  XSeed's getting some of my paychecks, that's for sure. Now if Tokimeki Memorial 4 also gets localized, then not only will I be disgustingly happy in pants, but I will worship-pray to my almighty PSP.

THIS!!!!

will never happen, the translation would be too bothersome and complex since each girl is capable of saying any name you actually write on it, unless they make a generic name but I doubt konami will take this kind of risk at all.

And more than any Tokimeki game, I want to see a love plus game localized.

I second this. Atlus is one company I love giving my pay to, and XSeed was pretty close to that status too. Moreso now with this news. <3

Some of these are pretty nice, especially the scenery ones! I grabbed the OiF one of the mountain since it changes all the icons properly.
