i don't play many shooters cause i'm not a fan of first person perspective, however if it's top down or third person anything i might give it a shot. i might be willing to try borderlands or guardians of middle earth or just hack slash whatever.

It's possible to game the system in either Demon's or Dark Souls, find a place with few people and lay down signs, cycling through until your friend sees it.
