About the original: Is it recommended to play the first one too for maximum enjoyment, or does it not really matter?

Nope, I played Lufia 2 before Lufia 1 and I enjoyed every minute of it. The first Lufia game doesn't hold up nearly as well.
At any rate, reserved excitement.

DO WANT! Regardless of changes to gameplay and character designs (Which, in all honesty, I like), I'm very excited!

I'm going to have to +1 in FAVOR of the designs.

Interesting they abandoned the RPG element in more favor of an action thinger. I'm playing for the puzzles, its not like the SNES battle system was too remarkable.
I lol the Serena pic.

Looking at Dekar's old picture made me realize how he actually looks a lot less ridiculous now. We're talking about a guy with pink hair.

Nope, I played Lufia 2 before Lufia 1 and I enjoyed every minute of it. The first Lufia game doesn't hold up nearly as well.
Plus don't forget, Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals is a prequel to Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. So in terms of canon, 2's storyline comes before 1. As for whether the game is good or not, anything is better than Lufia: Ruins of Lore. That game was elephant diarrhea. Lufia 1 was decent, Lufia 2 was awesome, Lufia The Legend Returns for GBC wasn't very good... so Lufia has itself a serious hole of suck to dig itself out of. Will this be a good reboot like the Batman movies? Time will tell.

Pink is a real man's color! In fact, pink used to be the color associated with boys, because it was considered a lighter shade of red, which is definitely a manly color.
Dekar is actually much more manly with pink hair.

I've been keeping an eye on this game since last year when it came out in japan. Been hoping for a localization for some time. Hate some of the redesigned characters (Maxim looks like a typical anime hero now, spiky hair and all). I mostly am waiting to hear some of the music, since lufia II had some amazing tunes, specifically the sinistral battle theme.

From what I've heard of the music so far, it's practically identical to the original. That's not a complaint. \m/
