I'm watching the first Pirates right now to excite myself even more when I catch it first thing tomorrow. I think this is the first movie I'm going to see in a theater this year. I guess I'm just contributing to that weaker box office. Regardless, I'm pretty syked.

I don't get its appeal. The first movie was average at best and seemed to only get attention because of Johnny Depp's Keith Richards impression. It's fun and all, but damn.

Speaking of Depp, am I the only one who's just tired of him? He's a talented actor and all, but he just annoys me now. Whatever.

Didn't mean to troll or anything, it's just that it escapes me how this movie became so acclaimed. Popularity I can understand, but the critical success it's gotten is just ridiculous, IMO.

Saw it last night at 12:03am.

Eh....

Dont get me wrong, it was entertaining, it just lacked the luster that the original had. And please, dont give me the bullshit "you should judge it on its own merits and not based on how the original was."

If I wasnt supposed to judge it based on the originals....then they shouldn't have made a fucking sequel.

Final Assessment:  Johnny Depp is still the same character, Orlando Bloom is still a boring boyscout without superpowers, and Kira Knightly is hot and she can use a sword.....HOLY CRAP DO I HEAR THE WORD OSCAR IN OUR FUTURE?!

How about no. I was expecting an Empire Strikes Back film....and instead got Weekend at Bernies 2.

Edit: Here....this will explain everything....and quite accurately I might add.

I'm going to see it later today, so I'll see if it's good or not. Maybe the appeal of the original film was that it was a good film that was actually made by -gasp!- Disney, which, going off most of their films now, seemed the most impossible thing in the universe ever. Ive read a review of this Pirates of the Caribbean which described it as "the Matrix Reloaded with shellfish". Shame this isnt as good a review of the film as that ninja guy...

It beat Spider-Man's 3-day weekend record.

$132 Million.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will. However, I have no big hopes because the first one resolved everything it needed to. Unless they can impress me the same way they did with the first, I will be disappointed.

I'd almost put money on Spider-Man 3 beating that, but it's not a definite.  I dunno if Spider-Man can draw the kid crowd that Pirates did.

Keira Knightley and pirate action draws in guys.

Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom draw in the girls.

The kids love it because it's a Pirate movie.

So yeah...makes sense.

Spider-Man 3 has...

Topher Grace and Tobey Maguire. Oh, and Kirsten Dunst.

Looks like the only point of this second movie is to create loads of loose ends to be tied up by the third one next summer. Oh and also as a cash-in on the success of the first one. Like The Mummy Returns and then the Scorpion King.

I thought it was pretty damn good. Plotwise it was not so strong, despite it's best efforts. Once it realised that the plot just wasn't that exciting, it got a lot better. The last half-hour was really, really good, and set it up pretty nicely for the last film.

Knightley and Bloom were surprisingly not that bad acting-wise. Orlando seems to have learnt a new tone of voice or two :P Surprisingly, the disappointment was Captain Jack. It felt like the writers were trying so hard to recapture the comedy of the character from the first film, and it just didn't work quite as well. I mean, the comedy was on the whole pretty good, but not as funny as the first.

And Davy Jones is the best CG I've yet seen. Really, really incredible. Although not a good a villain as Barbosa.

Not as good as the first one and a bit over the top at times. I thought the whole "kabob" near the beginning of the movie was just trying to hard to be funny.

Still very good though and I'm very much looking forward to the next one.

...And OMG, Keira Knightley!

I agree with you guys here. Although, I still thinks she needs to eat a bit more.

I'll see the movie in a week or two. Just wanted to add my 2 cents on Ms. Hotness.
