Steam is really pushing the fucking envelope
whatever that means
Either way this is going to be a great way to indoctrinate a whole new legion of PS3 owners into steam.
Its not "two copies" of the game by the way. You register the PS3 game with a steam account and it becomes accessible on your PC as well (If I am understanding this all correctly)
Still awesome
But still better on PC

Good point - and an excellent way for them to pull people in who aren't already on Steam.

I wonder if the Steam connection is going to be handled like an online pass. Will you have to go through Steam to play co-op? If you don't you would be able to play co-op with one purchase of the game (PS3 and PC). But what would happen to the people who don't buy the game new? Will they be unable to play the game online? Will they be able to purchase an online pass? Will that online pass give them the PC version as well? How much will it cost?
I love that Valve is doing this more than I can express in words, but there are a lot of questions I have about the practical implementation of this system.

I imagine one of two things: 1. You buy the game used, and you can play online but you can't get the PC copy, or 2. It's exactly as you outlined, being unable to play online, except maybe if you paid to unlock it (and subsequently get the PC version), like $15 or something. Which would probably also be an abusable way to get the game for cheap, but given the sales Steam offers I doubt they mind quite as much as others would.

What baffles me is that despite Newell and Microsoft being buddies and all, they're giving Portal 2 360 the shaft.

I have little doubt it's not what Valve WANTS to do so much as Microsoft's policy keeps them from doing things the way they want. If they could have their way you'd probably be able to buy the game on one platform then download to every other one.
Microsoft also probably tolerates it because they have L4D1&2 and the PS3 never will.

I hope you're not using this as some bullshit reason to hold Valve in contempt, given the post I had just made and
news like this proving Valve is clearly doing all they can for every platform
. Seriously, getting Microsoft to support user maps on the Xbox? Kinda surprised by that one!

There's still hope to see that feature in the game though. In any case, the PS3 version is still a good purchase.

People talk about going on media blackouts for games.
Portal 2 is one of them for me.
