Yeah, now all they are talking about is this Beta nonsense. I have no intention of playing it online.

Why not? Looks like it's a major part of the experience.
I don't play games online. Never have. Even if I wanted to, I'm pretty sure my dsl connection isn't fast enough.

I prefer a good single player game to online (except for a jonesing with a Reach or COD fragfest) but certain games have proven to be enriched with a sort of "minimal" approach. Demon's Souls is the most obvious example.

Journey is kinda going with the same approach.

Er, if you have DSL I'm sure it's fine.  It's not like you're on dial-up or something (though I did online gaming via dial-up back in the day...).  It's more latency sensitive than bandwidth sensitive anyway.

I dunno about that. Is it just me, or has the internet gotten much slower over time? I get the feeling that as connection speeds increase, the net gets more and more bogged down, and there's more and more latency. I still can't watch a low-res YouTube video over DSL without lots of buffering. I remember doing about the same with "All Your Bass are Belong to Us", 10 years ago.

No problems w/ the net here.

My +1 downloaded a 60min ep of her favorite show this morning and it took about 10 minutes.

Yeah, my connection is quite fast.  I stream HD video without any perceptible buffering.

People are already playing the beta, initial impressions are very positive.

I suppose if I were to play any game online, this would be the one. Won't happen, though, so it doesn't matter.

We only have one connection in the house and it's always connected to the computer. To DL something for the 360 or the PS3 I have to disconnect it and run it across the room to where my systems are. Then I have to return it back to the computer before my wife has a cow about me using it. If I we're to play a game online I would be constantly moving the line back and forth. Big pain in the ass.
Plus, our DSL is only 3mb/sec. Fast enough for most things, but I can't imagine that's good enough for a decent gaming experience.
Anyway...

You don't have a router?  You only have one computer in the house?  I figured just about everyone had wireless routers these days, and the PS3 has wifi built in.  I can't even imagine only having one computer hooked up at a time.  My place is littered with PCs, laptops, consoles, handhelds, tablets, phones, etc, all sharing the connection at once...

Um...that's easily good enough.  More than enough.  I don't know what you're judging this by since you obviously don't have any online gaming experience, but it really doesn't require a ton of bandwidth.  There are plenty of people playing online with worse connections than yours.

Look, if you don't want to play online that's your choice.  But I feel compelled to comment when you say things like that.  Your arguments seem more like rationalizations to me.

No, I honestly think 3mb/sec is slow as molasses. Probably comes from having two tech head brothers with MUCH faster net connections than I have. I actually did think that in order to play a game with no problems online that you had to have a really fast connection. Now I know better.
And I'm sorry, but your comment about not having more than one computer is just stupid. I'm pretty sure most people just have one computer and that's it. There's no reason to have more than one. Plus, that costs money, and I'm not exactly made of the stuff.
Our connection situation works just fine as it is mostly because I rarely go online with the consoles. I suppose if that ever changes then I would have to look into routers and wifi and whatnot.

This is equally dumb. Plenty of people have a laptop for on-the-go stuff and a desktop for more intensive projects.

Sorry to keep straying from the topic, but...
No, it is not equally dumb. Most people, whether they would like one or not, simply cannot afford more than one computer. They've come down quite a bit over the years, but they are still very expensive to your average Joe. You may know "plenty" of people who do this, but I guarantee you it is not the norm. I imagine there are still "plenty" of folks out there who don't even have one computer.

Saying there is no reason for having more than one computer might make sense for your life, but plenty of people have multiple devices depending on their needs.

Any time you want to back your claims up, I'll be waiting.
