I've never given the two Baten Kaitos games a chance. Whats everyone's opinions on both games?
The first game was okay, it had rather weak and unoriginal characters (e.g.
Gibari) but it was made up for by a plot twist. The battle system can be fun at times, but it's also needlessly complicated and tends to drag on somewhat.
Baten Kaitos Origins improved on the first in just about every way possible, though there aren't a lot of new areas, and it can feel like a bit of rehash when you're mostly visiting places you've been before. I would normally recommend skipping ahead to this, but there are lots of references to BK that I wouldn't want to miss out on. It's probably the best traditional RPG on the Gamecube (excluding the port of Skies of Arcadia), which might seem like damning it with faint praise, though I did like it a lot.
