I don't ask that a every game's story be riveting, but I really think they need to stop being as pretentious. If you want to write a serious story, make me care about it. Otherwise, it's probably easier to go for the "charming" (IE fun adventure) route, which is why I like games like Grandia and FF9 a lot.

Let be honest, when you play a game from the MegaTen franchise your standards in JRPGs become too high to reach (or that's just me?).

So far, the game looks like my cup of tea. But Square Enix being Square Enix are going to piss off fans in some way... Final Fantasy XIII for example was a big "Fuck you" for me. I mean, X-2 is a more complete game than XIII.

Either way, we just have to wait for a trailer showing some gameplay before starting to screaming like madman.

Oh yeah, this I can agree with, though more importantly it needs to avoid being obnoxiously stupid and having drawn out cutscenes. SO3 was acceptable enough for me there, but watching SO4's cutscenes... yeah, that definitely crosses the line.

Agreed. I think those had good storylines and I kind of liked all characters...
I don't ask for something super-duper-never thought about before, but... Something refreshing or interesting/loveable characters for a change.

Seeing the main char of Versus makes me think of Squall to be honest. He gives the same "I can do everything on my own and don't need anyone" air. And I never liked Squall because of that (or Cloud for that matter). Zidane in comparision was ALIVE.
Lightning in 13 at least developed into something better, but her 'basic attidude' was the same.

Oh well. For the time being all we can do is wait and see...

Also, this post by duckroll tells you why you should be excited about a *gasp* portable RPG.

I wouldn't really say that applies to ALL the games, and execution's a factor too anyway. SMT1, 2 and Strange Journey certainly aren't the same as Doom!
