Oh Uru, always mister negativity!
lol, I didnt mean for it to come out that way! I tried to end on a high note too...
Like i said, i would love to see more videos or more info before i get super excited and run out and buy a wii. I was really letting myself get taken aback by Xenoblade, until I saw a bunch of gameplay trailers. Maybe its a "fool me once..." type of attitude i now have towards games?
Is there something wrong with the gameplay in Xenoblade?
This looks more experimental than it to me and Xenoblade's impressions have been pretty positive from Japan so far. I think this looks interesting but I'm hoping this turns out well too. It looks like a Mistwalker/AQI studio game (LO meets Nier) from the trailer but I need a bit more convincing since I think it can go either way.

I really enjoyed the 1st trailer to The Last Story. This and Xenoblade will end up being the best RPG's on the Wii. Although the only RPG's ive actually played on the Wii was Opoona and everyone gives that game hell. Anyways, this is my 1st post and ive been registered since September 2009, I just never got around to posting on here. I've been visiting the site since 2006.

Not a good thing to watch after reading the review of Final Fantasy IX.
After reading the review, I realized that few RPGs really have much charm to them. I thought that all had become either dark generic or dark experimental. Then I watched this trailer, and it confirmed what I had just been thinking. Had I not been concentrating on that fact, maybe I would have been able to look past it and enjoy it. But currently, I'm just feeling really dubious. Its pallette consists almost entirely of dark grey and dark blue, the music (while good for what it is) is generic orchestral dark fantasy music.
There's nothing here that we haven't seen a million times over. Maybe it's got new characters, maybe the story takes a couple of old twists, but places them at different intervals. Oh... stop the presses... it's got a UNIQUE AND INTERESTING BATTLE SYSTEM. Fuck, I've stopped caring any more. Every game has a unique and interesting battle system, which in the end, feels exactly like everything else, because the game feels like everything else.
Final Fantasy IX was turn based. Skies of Arcadia was turn based, and ya know what? They were two of the best games I ever played. I'm not saying this is going to be complete dirt, but I'm just sick and tired of generic dark fantasy. No intrigue, no charm, no personality. Just stone walls, gray/blue skies, and guys in dull armor.

Games with the "spirit" of Final Fantasy IX, Skies of Arcadia or Dragon Quest VIII are very rare occurrence, those games are excellents because the developers had fun creating all this new universe to you. And you can see it and feel it while you play the game.
I haven't enjoyed a Japanese RPG in a
long
time, because the genre has become this big serious man who like to show you his big gorgeous CGI scenes, along with a dramatic (a.k.a. boring) storyline, annoying characters, forgettable soundtrack and what not.
The only thing that I want in a RPG is to have fun with the characters, enjoy an adventure, play with the world of this characters with a simple yet enjoyable plot, and this with a nice soundtrack. That's why I loved Final Fantasy IX, Dragon Quest VIII and Skies of Arcadia so much... I hate when games forget that they are games, I hate when developers use the the word "realistic"; But that's just me.
Maybe The Last Story is not this kind of RPG, but we'll see.

Not yet, but I am a little skeptical about Nier at the moment. But don't worry I'll get to play Nier sooner or later, that's for sure (is in my list of "Do want!" afterall).

I thought the video looked really cool and the battle system seemed different, especially from the same dull and boring turn based Sawaguchi makes on everything he touches. (I don't mean turn based are bad, just that his turn based end up being more boring than they are worth)
I can't express myself at how lucky I am for this game not looking anything like FFIX, sorry we're not on the same boat lol.
Honestly I'm glad Sawaguchi's taking a chance and doing an RPG a bit out of his usual doing. Instead of trying an Dragon Quest clone (Blur Dragon) or a really bad Final Fantasy clone (Lost Odyssey) he's finally making something new.

casually pessimistic = CP
CP = child porn?
sorry, had to relieve a little bit of boredom with that

During one of my restful reposes last night I came to the realization that I know exactly how this game will play out based on that trailer alone.
You've got your generic JRPG kingdom knowing only peace like only a generic JRPG kingdom would know. You've got your usual evil empire causing trouble in paradise. You've got your typical rebellion led by the main character that looks a little too much like a biker gang. You've got your stereotypical JRPG Princess prattling on about saving the planet and how humans should've never left the caves or trees because new technology is always evil. And you've got a bunch of other characters existing solely to fill party and anime roles.
Can't say I'm entirely enamored by this game anymore.
