It pretty much is a DQ3 successor, and the only other game that plays most similar to it. Whether it's better or worse varies.

Well, that's certainly good to hear. I might pick it up when it gets cheap, then. Thank you.

I just got this game on Monday and have already dropped some serious time into it (~20 hours). I'm not sure if I'm going to go for a 100% completion rate on everything, but I do plan on spending a lot of time doing "extra" stuff. This makes me incredibly nostalgic for my first few RPG experiences, when everything felt so big and open. For the most part, DQIX nails it. the first few hours weren't exactly gripping, but that's about my only complaint. Oh, and the menus are slow when you're trying to sell stuff.

And yeah, 50,000 gold is nothing. I have 45,000, and that's after I died fighting Equinox and lost half of it.

Picked it up tonight, but I'm rushing headlong into exam season, so I won't be putting any serious time into this until Xmas at the earliest.

And Last Window is staying firmly planted in my DS until I finish it, and I play that little enough as it is.

Question - is it best to make a party as soon as possible and recruit them to fight with you, or do you meet people along the way?

"Meet people along the way" means DLC quests you can't adequately tackle until you've made a good chunk of progress into the game. Go ahead and make your team.

DLC as in multiplayer or actual DLC?

"Actual", though really it's more that you get unlock keys whenever you go on the online shop. You'll get that in a few more hours I think.

I pretty much just have the last boss fight before I finish off the main story. However, I've been hunting slimes and all of my characters have 2 vocations in their 40s and a few others in their 20s. Before I go ahead and finish the game, I'm going to unlock the Sage class and do a few random quests, I think. Then on to the post-game.

Pretty much just more random fetch quests and monster hunter style random dungeon crawling.

Basically you just grind to fight all of the bosses in the grottos/maps.

It really is a blast. For some reason, completing useless sidequests and grinding has never been this fun. I think a part of it is the speed. The battles are fast enough that they don't ever feel tedious. I would reccomend it. Like I said, I have 60 hours on the game and I'm still going strong.

Also, I tried the final boss last night and it made it through the first two fights only to die on the last one. Back to the grinding board for now.

Good luck!

I still want to wait until it's cheap since I've never quite been fond of the Dragon Quest series (they're a patience tryer)., but I still appreciate the recommendation.=)

I know this is too late, but amazon offered it for $17 as a lightning deal for Cyber Monday.

I mean I wanna get it cheap when I have money. I'm broke right now.=P Thanks for the heads up, though. It was on sale at Target on Black Friday, but I missed it, unfortunately.=(
