The best part about living in America is that for all the terrorists and suitcase nukes and black Muslim socialists with inordinate amounts of political power and other shit out there, the biggest threat to your day to day existence is the fucking SKY.

Typical Indonesian wedding in our village.

Totally late to the party, but, awesome. My dad got married in Indonesia ten years ago and it was a pretty wedding, to say the least.

For the past six months, I'd been visiting a patient who was in and out of the hospital. She was a 19-year-old girl who was diagnosed with ALL, which had been in remission for a few months; she would come in for a check-up every so often for a growth or symptom that indicated a recurrence. I was on her case a few months back, and started visiting her afterward whenever she returned to the hospital. When I visited her she would tell me about her dreams to become an artist. I gave her a sketchbook at some point in time, and she returned it with a few 'minor scribbles,' which I found to be works of art.

In the prior month and a half, though, it had recurred and her health took a severe turn for the worse. She had lost most of her hair due to the chemotherapy (which had no effect anymore), and she would cry when I came and her family members weren't visiting, because I was the only person she didn't 'need' to be strong for. She was discharged from the hospital last week. She had decided to give up and stop treatment. Before she had left she thanked me for everything I had done for her.

I was informed today with the news of her passing.

"I felt a nameless dread. Well, there probably is a long German name for it, like Geschpooklichkeit or something, but I don't speak German. Anyway, it's a dread that nobody knows the name for, like those little square plastic gizmos that close your bread bags. I don't know the name for those either."
