Oh no - a fellow Redditor!  Well, at least we're not Facebook friends, Dice.  I'll still have SOMEWHERE to post the awesome stuff I find there. ;)  (Also, I totally missed at least one of those.)

Native German speakers there said that if you really stretch things (haha), you could say that "sex toys" was a sort of translation for that, but it's not really the word for them.  Then everybody whined about how out of date the slang in German textbooks is. :D

And frankly, I've always been of the opinion that rote memorization of your times tables is one of the very few times that memorizing something is the best way to use it. And I'm not talking the concept of multiplication, but rather the ability to do two or more digit multiplication. In my history of teaching, I've never found any student who was able to effectively do two+ digit mental or written multiplication quickly and accurately who had not learned his or her times tables via rote memorization.
