I travel a lot (although it's almost always in the US), so I get to know a lot of different people, but there's only been one person, one time, ever, who tried to get me to drink something alcoholic.  Even that same person hasn't tried to get me to drink on other occasions.  Everyone else's response has always been "Oh, you don't drink?  OK."  I'm not sure if I can even remember anyone asking why!

So, are my experiences weird?

I've been asked why I don't drink mostly by other students (young as or younger than me). My older/more mature friends just accept it and try not to get too drunk around me, which is nice of them. I think the sort of people who ask why are those who probably can't think of good enough reasons themselves not to drink- i.e. "It's good fun, why not drink?" But I suppose as you grow older you're exposed to different lifestyles and can understand how the negative aspects can be a bit of a put-off.

I love the moment where I ask if someone wants a cider because I'm going to get one from the fridge, the person decides to not only tell me that they don't drink, also why they don't drink and also that my drinking this one lone cider makes me practically one with the animals, being unable to comprehend their superior intelligence. Then they have a smug look on their face like they are now the fucking Dalai Lama of wisdom.

Look, I was just being nice. I don't really want to give you one of my ciders, it's just a faux pas to not offer. I am aware drinking is bad for me, I have taken upon me, the seemingly  Atlas type responsibility, to choose to have a cider once a week with my Sunday dinner.

I like drinking. It's never been any more complicated than that.

If it makes you feel any better, I always thought that about you. ;)

Nah, I agree - that's pretty stupid. In that situation, I might say "no thanks, I don't drink," if I thought that further offers would be coming, but I'd probably just say "no thanks, but I could go for some water," or something like that.

I am unable to drink alcohol while eating. They just don't match for me. I don't drink that often so that may play a role. Of course this is coming from the guy who does not like purple skittles.

I don't like any Skittles...

But alcohol, that I like.  Especially with food.

Agreed! Perhaps we've hit upon something here...

I only found this out last Saturday: They have Skittles flavored lip balm.  One of my friends produced it from his bookbag and mentioned some random girl who gave it to him.

I'm just glad my fat, ugly momma is not alive to see this.

EDIT: Slow? Why did I say slow? I meant so. Maybe I said slow because I am slow, and my fingers are just giving me one of their subtle reminders. I should stop now. Stopping....now.

You kissed him. That's how you found out.

Get your mind out of the gutter, you filth!  If that had happened, his girlfriend would have kicked my ass.  She's a tiny little thing, looks about half my size, but is as tough and tenacious as a wolverine.  For all I know, she probably shredded the girl who gave him the Skittles lip balm.

Wait.

You have a girlfriend?

Also today I saw a furry. This is how I know I am now going to a large college.

I wish I knew why I was still in college.

Furries actually attend college in the full gear? (I'm assuming that's how you were able to identify one from a distance)
