I think it fits the tone of the story more, and they don't look that bad (in III anyway).

Playing Symphonia for the first time (never had a gamecube). Seven hours in, and i'm having a hard time enjoying the battles. The normal encounters seems so slow-paced, and it feels like i'm not getting stronger. I'm not that fond of the characters either, but i can sense there'll possibly be some good development on Lloyd. Well, these are only my first impression, will play some more, since i am enjoying the story so far.

I don't disagree, but it still irks me.  It feels like they just didn't have faith in their original vision or something.

Thought I'd bring this up, but anyone else get a good laugh from Xenosaga 3's Jin artwork?  He looks like a chipmunk with a broken arm

Omg, what the hell happened?  Especially when the rest of the cast were drawn so much better.

Really hated the change from 1->2, that was a big shock seeing completely different models.  When it comes to 3 I guess people including me get used to it.  However still felt the original faces/models are fine, not sure why they made huge changes like that.  In particular, KOS-MOS looked damn fine in 1, although the ones in 3 also looks good I still prefer the model in episode I.

Omg, what the hell happened?  Especially when the rest of the cast were drawn so much better.

Haha, is that one real?  That's quite ridiculous.  Jin is actually a pretty cool character, comparing to his sister.

Some interesting responses on battle system of XS episode II, I don't realize that the combat is so hated by many... I guess I am in the minority here in thinking it is quite interesting with the boost system (if I remember correctly?) and how you can make combos.   I remember it is quite different from episode 1, and they ditched all the changes in 3.  Back then I liked the combat of 2 much better than 1 and 3 because it deviated from the traditional turn-based formula quite a bit.

In an attempt to bring back on-topic (sorry for the derailment)

I think it gets better later.  The combat in this game is probably slightly out-dated in tales standards - it gets better as you goes through the story though.  I don't believe you can do free-runs in this one, so it probably feels limited if you played the later tales games.

I think they tried to make to make him look his actual age (he is 35, I think?) but it went horribly wrong. I get it, drawing more mature faces is hard, but if that was the best they could come up with... Don't most people get chipmunk cheeks until they're like 50+? And usually you have to have some extra fat to get the skin to sag like that. Jin is pretty lean and in great shape. (Which we know thanks to that silly/awful loincloth.)

Hmm.

I think they were trying to make him an even more blatant Citan expy than he already is. It seems like they're trying to mimic Xenogears' style with the wider mouths for all of its characters.  The problem is that the characters in Xenogears had their poses angled differently, so of course it's not going to work in art from the front.

New character.  It's ToX's Leia Ver. 2.0 and daikon radish ponytail.

Very goth loli.

EDIT: BTW, I am very disappointed in their no hotlinking image. Arche? WTF does Arche have to do with hotlinking. She doesn't hotlink like a tiger.
They should go with this:

thanks for the fix.
I'm not feeling her.  I think I like Mercurio the most right now.

....I'm still hoping the Tales series will one day be brave enough to have an older female character. :P

I want to believe that's a real critter tied to her umbrella, but I know this is a Tales of game so I know that its just an accessory (or part of the umbrella itself).

Also, lolipop here either has really short shins or really fuckin' large booties.

Boots are in right now, son.
I do like the NN of "Lolipop".

Character Info:
Quote
- Edna is a one of the Divine (Tenzoku) that has been living all alone in the sacred mountain called "Reiforc" ( レイフォルク, reiforuku ). Though usually indifferent, she likes stirring up people with her words. She's really wary against humans and does not trust them. She uses Earth element Divine Arts.

Divine bodies like to accessorize!  Aw!
I dunno.  I like the ideas here, but the more I look at it, the more I dislike it. It's cute as hell, that's for sure, and the colours are really nice.  But on one hand this is obviously Leia with a new coat of paint, and on the other hand for looking almost exactly what you'd expect from an anime artist (ie; not a "game" artist -- if that makes any sense).  I'm hoping, as often is the case, the game can flesh her out.  But judging a book by its cover, I'm not terribly impressed. :/

More to the point: As derivative as Fujishima is, I did love how the Tales of the Abyss cast more or less suited their world.  Tear had a musical bar going down her dress, Jade looked like some high-fantasy general, Guy looked like a posh butler, Natalia looked like an 'Action Princess', and Luke looked like a douchebag.

That is pretty ridiculous indeed.
A mountain god that's always alone and distrusts human but accessorizes the shit out of her looks with human accessories that she got who knows where ? *rolls eyes*

As long as that umbrella is her weapon of choice, I'm game.

Er... double post I guess.

Played through the first part of Chapter 3 in Tales of Xillia and I'm starting to get the feeling that you need to approach every Tales game with the understanding that Astronomy just doesn't exist at all.

Code:
Also, I hate--HATE--that the game took the "sitcom approach," i.e. everything would have been fine if the bumbling comic relief hadn't gotten involved
