The missions we need to protect people ? Come on? I can barely protect myself.

If you have an escort/protect mission just come up with one of the party combinations that more or less lets you instantly teleport around the map or something*. As Gen said, racial skills are everything.

(although the best ending really is apparently balanced for a second playthrough from what I've heard, so...).

* It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure there's a skill that lets you move father, a skill that lets you teleport instead of walking meaning obstructions don't matter, and a skill that lets you move again after attacking. Base your parties around this if you have dudes to protect that move around a lot. If you're defending a stationary target, have a defense party that moves fast (or two) and some other parties that have skills that let them attack multiple times or do extra damage or whatever.

And exploit elemental weaknesses because pretty much everything can cause a static effect in this game.

Devil Survivor was the game that introduced me to SMT, so I will be forever greatful for that. Even if SMT has kinda ruined JRPG's for me, because now I'm all "voice acting isn't as good as SMT"..."I like that in SMT elemental weaknesses actually show a significant increase in damage"...etc

I found it hard, but only in the way that it was challenging. Never unfair.

The first time I battled Wendigo was a pain, but I think that battle is what taught me that you cannot be ridgid with your stratagy and you have got to be flexible

Yeah the first boss or whatever Wendigo is the only one you might really need to grind for since your demon selection isn't good at that point.

Love this game! defiantly hard, but very rewarding, like most SMT games. What is considered the true ending? Cause I remember several different true endings.

There isn't really a "true" ending to the game, but I think most people consider the Naota (The hacker, whatever his name was) path to be the real one, since it's the one that gets more into the biblical explanations and what have you.

The true ending's supposed to be the one where nobody dies or something.

In any case the one thing that made this game actually unfairly hard were the crash bugs. Those were lame.

I'm playing the game right now, at the end of day 6 and about to choose my path: either
Code:
Yuzu or Gin
. Probably going to choose the latter.

I did a fair amount of free battles on the way, but I never felt I was grinding. As already mentioned, the battles are quick and even more importantly, tons of fun.

I never had any real problems with the escort missions, either. they don't require skills like devil speed, actually. you just have to plan your moves right.

My only complaint is that it seems like the game was rushed. There are typos, especially in the later days, there is apparently one line that wasn't translated at all, and the crashes....i haven't had one since day 2 or 3, but still.

Am I the only one who hasn't had this problem? At all? I'm only on Day 4 but I've died a lot so I've played a lot despite that. :P

it can be hard, but I'm not finding it impossible. I love this game.

I've completed Devil Survivor about four times and never encountered a crash bug.

I must have gotten lucky?

Apparently they are more likely to happen if one of your teams is affected by certain status effects (I think stone, but I'm not 100% sure).

My game never crashed, but I almost never got hit by status effects, so.

In my opinion, go for Gin's route. His ending is much more satisfying.

Man, I really loved this game, it's one of those I wish I could experience again for the first time. Everything SMT is just pure win.

Want to try a hard SRPG?  The new Fire Emblem DS on Lunatic mode is pretty difficult.  If you don't use the wi-fi features, anyway.
