So am I gonna be the only one throwing it down as a steampunk Iron Man or a demon dust wizard while everyone else is playing Borderlands 2 or Guild Wars 2?  Come on, there's another awesome RPG 2-sequel coming out in August/September!

You are not alone.

It's good clickins.

I am not sure the clickins have ever been this good, this refined. Torchlight 2 reaches a state close to clickphoria. Or perhaps clickvana.

You mean "call in click?"

Sorry, really wanted a piece of the bad joke action. :)

One hour until launch!  My favorite Diablo clone classes are tanks, aura classes, and summon classes, so right now I think I'll start out as a... I don't know.  Every TL2 class can handle at least two of those roles!

You're right - that was obvious.  Oh, well.

I did end up buying it, about 30 minutes before launch, so I still got Torchlight free.  (If anyone wants a free copy, say the word.  I already own it on Steam and XBLA.)  Played for a while as an engineer, then switched to the outlander for some shootin' action.  I enjoyed the latter more than the former.  I like dual-wielding pistols, but for close up crowd control, shotguns and cannons are VERY satisfying. :)

Right now I'm rolling Engineer with Flame Hammer, Seismic Slam, Ember Hammer, and Heal Bot.  Heavy Lifting and Fire & Spark for passives.  Basically I keep using the strongest 2H weapons I can get, stunning foes with Seismic Slam (fire damage and stun in a large radius) and then wrecking them with the two Hammer skills (one is fire, one is electric, they both have splash/range damage).  Heal Bot is a nifty little summon that restores health and mana every few seconds.  Heavy Lifting boosts damage with 2H weapons and F&S boosts fire and electricity.  Gonna focus on those six skills and maybe switch to some more defensive stuff if I'm dying too often.  If not, then I'll focus on some of the Charge passives once I get to a high level with those six.

EDIT: yes, I'm aware those four skills are all the first ones listed in their trees, and that I'm totally avoiding the defensive / tanking tree.  They happen to be working out QUITE well for me.

I want to try the other classes too, but I'm having a lot of fun with just the Engineer.  Might wait until I've beaten the game once.

I've had the game for about 12 hours... only got to play for about an hour tho ..

so far, it's pretty addicted and I'm still playing D3 heavily so, now the real test begins of which gets more time.

I'd like to hear opinions of those who have had more playtime on the final release..

peace

Right now in my book Torchlight 2 >>>> Diablo 3. But something about the Torchlight games has always really (dare I say it) clicked with me, and I think it has to do with the insane amount of polish that goes into each click, each animation, each sound effect - I find the combat intensely more satisfying than anything in D3.

YMMV.

Review coming soon.

So far, I'm enjoying Torchlight 2. As Dave said, it's very polished, and there's a lot of fun to be had. On the other hand, I feel like both games (D3 and T2) are equally polished, but I found the combat much more satisfying in Diablo 3. The loot system is more interesting in Torch 2, but again, the basic "click this guy, watch him explode" is better, I think, in Diablo 3. Part of that cames from Torch 2's approach-- Diablo 3 was trying to "change things," where as Torch 2 wants to just refine what already exists. There's room for both games, but in all honesty, in a month I doubt I'll be playing either of them.

I will be playing BORDERLANDS.

Agree, plenty of room for both games. Personally, if the endgame for T2 is even close to the endless fun that is the endgame in T1, I will be playing this for many years just like I did T1 until T2 came out.

Yeah, for minute to minute fun, I think I'd give the edge to D3 at this point.  However, there are some things that T2 does so well.  I love pets.  (BTW, did anyone else miss/almost miss the fact that there's a second page of pets?)
