Quote
The original saga frontier was a huge letdown for me. It promised a dragon quest 4 style scenario. It delivered the same game 7 times.

It did no such thing.  What it promised was 7 different games with 7 different heroes, which is EXACTLY what it delivered(Hell, Frontier was actually super-special in that each character had a unique skill that no other main character got).  The fact that all 7 games were contained in the same "shell" world with many similar events is just the theme of the SaGa games.

As for a "resurgance" of the SaGa series, it never actually went away or died.  They just released a SaGa 2 remake in Japan(And oh dear god I still want them to release it here, SaGa 2 is probably my favorite in the series), and it wasn't too terribly long ago that we got Last Remnant, Minstrel Song, and Unlimited SaGa.  The SaGa series is far from dead yet, and I'm quite happy for it to stay that way.  The series may have some low points, but most of the games are fantastic and I wouldn't give up my time with them for anything.

And I'll agree with past sentiments in the thread and say that anyone looking for a SaGa game should try the Last Remnant.  It's got "Spiritual successor to SaGa" written all over the box in permanent marker and spray paint.

What are your specs on your computer?

Let's put it this way.

I play FFXI. FFXI has been out since 2002.

I have to set the game's config to low-mid range settings to keep from having lag / bad framerate.

Oooo, you may want to rethink buying Unlimited SaGa. Sadly it's a game that has sooo much potential, but falls flat because of gameplay flaws. I wanted to like that game so much but I couldn't.

Anyway, I love the SaGa series (or most of it) even if I've never beaten a SaGa game before. They seem to have great music, graphics, and an interesting, unique feel than other RPG games.

I loved Frontier 1 & 2.  But one think I've never liked was how sloppy the series was at time.  I hated in SaGa 1, wondering to some new cave and getting my ass absolutely handed to me.

In regards to Last Remenant, if at least you don't like the game, the music is super nice.

Hahaha, why not?

Steam sales! Ten bucks is an awesome price to pay for that game, and it's not like you can get the PC version Steam-free anyway.

The only time that should EVER happen in Frontier is if you wander into the Bio-Research Lab or if you accidentally try to advance Lute's quest instead of just doing side missions.  The game, like almost every SaGa game before it, is designed so that you can't fight monsters above your level unless they're bosses.  It's like everyone who played Frontier wandered into the Bio Lab and got killed by a max level enemey, and then just assumed the entire game was like that.
