BTW, I retract my statement. I'm playing now and yes, even on a 360 you want to use the D-pad. It is light-years better than the analog stick.
Also, I'm not much of a puzzle guy, but I do find the climbing pretty fun. Pretty surprised at that.

EDIT: The game is also hilarious. No review up until now even brought that up, but I was here dying of laughter at a certain scene.

I agree. The tower-climbing parts have a strange appeal that don't really make it feel much like a puzzle game. For the same reasons, I really hate the Rapunzel mini-game. I'm so bad at it, and stuck on 7th stage and really have just given up on it. Getting that achievement will be a huge pain.

Finally got my hands on my copy.  Amazon was nice enough to mail it next day air at no extra cost, I guess implicitly acknowledging their screw-up.

This might be my Game of the Year. Not since Mirrors Edge have I had faith in the gaming industry again and Catherine reignites my love of gaming. The puzzles are getting more intense, the pain Vincent goes through is hitting me hard and every morning I fear the result will have Vincent burning alive.I am nervous, mentally exhausted, uncertain and confused....Catherine is one of the best games I have played in a long time.

I am now on Stage 7 which I should complete tomorrow. If not,I fail.

I think the difficulty is overrated. I just got past what I thought was the final boss on day 8 (but it's really not) and saved for the night just before what should be the final-final stage. Maybe I just have a better mind for this kinda game but thus far I have not required any sort of FAQ to solve anything. Not to say there haven't been a few stages that took 4-6 lives to cycle through though, not counting boss battles. XD

I have to say this game really does suffer from cutscene overflow on the final sections. I thought I was sitting through the ending that last cutscene I watched took so darn long. So far I'm hoping the game really changes depending on your Law/Chaos meter because it looks like it's really trying to shoehorn you into one pairing no matter what. Also I'm starting to suspect it doesn't matter how far to the left or right you are on the Law/Chaos meter but rather "just" if you're left or right; a future playthrough should clarify that.

Thus far I love it but I'm disappointed the plot isn't going the way I want it to. :-\ I was expecting more flexability but again I'll have to see how the plot compares once I finish this playthrough and start my "jerk mode" play through.

Also...
Code:
Erica's a man? Priceless. XD

All I can say is this game is extremely interesting... can't say I have ever played anything like it.... The mood of the whole thing is very well deliverred and I love it.... But I must say the gameplay is leaving a bit to be desired for me at this point..... Climbing towers is fun but I need more then that coupled with cutscenes and questions to hold my attention...

All in all Catherine is bittersweet for me... totally an experience I would not pass up but, by the same token, not one I'll likely endeavor to experience again..... Whether or not the plot can be experienced in a different fashion given your "good bad meter" will remain a mystery to me because this tower is only getting escaped once for me I think....

I've finished Day 5.

Code:
I'm finding Vincent to be remarkably unlikeable in his refusal to deny or confront the women.
I understand it's the entire point of the game, but he keeps making the same mistake over and over again.

That said, for any new players, I highly suggest playing Rapunzel every night.  It's a horrible game (64 levels in the first and 64 in the second for a total of 128), but it also helps prepare you for upcoming levels by giving you much-needed practice.

Just a forewarning, I have not played the final area yet:

However is it just me or is
Code:
the story in Catherine kinda..."meh" during the final parts? I mean yeah maybe if I have a different meter it'll change but being "forced" to pick Katherine, Catherine being a succcubus (while it "does" make some degree of sense this honestly feel more like a D&D game with friends plot twist than something I'd really care for in a story such as this), and Super Sheep Evil Bad Guy coming out of left field like that... It's like all the aspects of "bad" Japanese story telling decided to jump onto an otherwise great tale at the last minute and go 'Don't forget about us~!" ~.~

Not to mention the sudden appearance of an escort mission near the end...oh dear lord that was horrific...

Also having finally neared the end I decided to look at the art book, had been putting it off for fear of spoilers like P4's. Ugh...what a piece of crap. I was hoping for more than pages of text I care nothing for and what amounts to what I can guess is basically Playboy-lite. Wish they had at least put the soundtrack in it's own case so I could just chuck the book since it has no redeeming quality at all.

Probably is old news, but anyone see the Persona 4 reference in the bathroom at the Stray Sheep?

No actually. What is it?

I restarted on Easy. This games is pretty tough on Normal, but it is really Easy on Easy. Like beyond Easy. It's weird. But at least I can see the story now.

Don't want to spoil it.  Check the right wall as soon as you enter the bathroom.

Yeah don't let that fool you. Stages 6+ are still going to give you frustrations unless you master the skills you need to survive. XD That "undo" is not a fix all by any means.

Just beat the game a little while ago. Apparently got the "True Freedom" ending; relatively decent but overall unsatisfying.
Code:
Vincent winds up with no one and basically "go kart's with bowser" to borrow some money and bet of women's wrestling so he can take a space vacation.

Replaying it now and trying to go for a "Pure Chaos" approach. I'm stopping on Day 2 because I'm relatively burnt out but the very first Law/Chaos dependent cutscene didn't play out very differently. I'm hoping this changes at later points.

There's another one, too!  Check the right side of the bar's counter.

I find I get more Awesome by pressing "A" in this game than Dragon Age 2 ever delivered.
