So one of the guys on the 1Up RPG podcast was whining about the plot in the game.

Is it as terrible as he says?

It's mostly bland, and has more of presence than prior Ys games. It's not heavy enough to really bug me though, I think they realized they were making a portable game that was first and foremost about high speed action and as such reigned themselves to only have dialogue take a few minutes to get through. I found it less offensive than a lot of their recent JRPGs too, though the lack of VA outside of battle also helps, and if that bugs you it can be completely turned off. You WILL probably want to remember that O makes the text instantaneous, the text scroll is somewhat slow and X does nothing but advance dialogue.

What REALLY concerns me there is what that says about Trails in the Sky. I don't care about Ys engaging me with a narrative, just don't bog it down too much, but Trails in the Sky is supposed to have enough dialogue that they nearly didn't get localized due to it. If the dialogue's going to be that heavy it better be engaging.

I fall the thought of standard fare, with all the familiarity, but has some charm. I accept it the way it is amongst JRPG stuff.

Finally got it yesterday. It's really fun. It's the first rpg I've got for the PSP that makes me want to keep on playing.

LE of Oath in Felghana revealed:

It looks nice, although I wish the cd cover art was a better picture.

Man, another PSP game to get.  I've been playing my PSP a whole lot more than PS3 lately.  Who says this system is dead?

Not sure I'll go for this LE, though.  I'm not terribly interested in a desktop calendar.  I guess it will depend on the track list on the CD.

Apparently, the soundtrack CD has one song never before released on a CD before, according to one of the XSEED employees.

Well, the selection songs in the Ys Seven album is really good, so I do have faith the good stuff will get selected. The soundtrack is quite win overall either way. :)

I think the LE is worth it, just for the soundtrack alone. Oath in Felghana's is by far my favorite soundtrack in the whole series. While this LE doesn't top 7's, I think the calendar is still pretty nifty. I wonder what they got planned for 1&2 Chronicles.

So... I purchased this game a few weeks ago and figured today that maybe I should try it to make sure it works in case I have to return it.

It's pretty much my first Ys and I'm having a blast with it.  I'm curious though, will Oath of Felghana have similar gameplay (i understand it's just Adol that's playable)?  Or is it back to the no attack button just run into the enemy type of gameplay?

Nope, Felghana has simiar gameplay to 7, just with Adol being the only playable character. 4 was the last Ys game with the run-into-enemy type of gameplay.

Felghana is an awesome game and an example of a remake done extremely well. I recommend you get it too.

Nice.  I'll set a preorder from Amazon then.  If it's anywhere near as good as Seven, I'll be quite happy.

Oath in Felghana was the last review I ever wrote for this website.  Anyone that owns a PSP and doesn't buy it is a douche tool.

I love Ys.
I don't have a psp.
I am seriously considering buying a psp so i can play these Ys games(plus a few others).
Thing is, I will probably only play it with it hooked up to my PS3 so I can play on the tv.
Getting to my point now...
How do psp games look when blown up on an HD tv?  terrible? OK? Still playable?

Other things to note about Felghana:
-You can jump and there are light platforming elements.
-You cannot carry items, but enemies can drop them for quick heals mid-dungeon. Actually does wonders on how epic the boss fights become.
-It's much shorter than Seven (the norm for the Ys series), but the pace is much faster to compensate.
-Music is completely awesome like all other entries in the series.

I don't know about running it through the PS3. I have the PSP component cable out straight to the TV.

It doesn't look *bad* -- but I'd rather just play games on my PSP.

Seriously man. Taking a dump and playing RPGs never felt so good. Just do it portable.
