Yuri Hyuga the harmonixer from Shadow Hearts 1&2. Far from the usual protagonists when it comes to personality and background.

Silent protagonists are manly.

yeah they are =]

Manliest non-silent protagonist I would say is Yuri (adult) from Infinite Space.  Unlike his younger self that you play as for the first half of the game, adult Yuri both looks and acts badass.  Unfortunately finding pics or vids with him in it seems to be impossible.  -__-

Um, Zelos from Blazing Souls: Accelate. At least, if by "manliest" you mean pointlessly angry, a little misogynistic, and completely unlikable.

If that's NOT what you meant, maybe one of the characters from Final Fantasy jeez, I dunno. Maybe the demi-fiend from Nocturne?

I would have liked to say Sly Boots from Anachronox in this thread, but though he is masculine (think old-school American detectives like Philip Marlowe) he's not the "manliest" man.  He's actually a bit of a coward, having run away from his past and rejected people who cared about him.  Toward the end of the game he "mans up" a bit and acknowledges his inner demons, but then the game abruptly ends.

Seriously. The guy doesn't talk too much, makes his own decisions, and fights demons by PUNCHING THEM IN THE FACE...AT THE END OF THE WORLD. Oh, and he doesn't wear a shirt.

Kiane

Lol. Yeah, I guess she counts, technically. But that's the only character I can think of that you are then forced to debate the definition of "man"... not gonna go there.

You don't have to be male to be manly :P

Also you changed the correct spelling to the incorrect spelling.

Maybe the demi-fiend from Nocturne?

You can make the case, also, that RPG male characters are compensating with certain things* with their swords. Or specifically, the size of their swords.

The demi-fiend doesn't even HAVE a sword.

Think about it.

In that case Lightning :P  Have a a problem of  when a teammate is acting emo or annoying? The answer is to punch them in the face! It would have been better/ hilarious if she pimp slapped them though.
