Let me give you some sitrep action. I have a PSP and am going on a long amtrack ride to upstate NY next week. I have Ys7 and some other games I'm sick of playing right now (crisis core, FFT) and I'm looking for another title for the train. It's a 12 hour ride if there are no delays.
I have a DS w/ some DQ titles so those types of RPGs are out. I was thinking of getting the metal slug anthology.
Any suggestions? I have a $20 coupon for amazon. I like strategy, shoot em ups, rpgs, and action stuff. I browsed the reviews and the joan of arc game looks cool.

Thanks for the shooter tips. Not going to lie, Twinbee looks interesting.

I am completely addicted to Valkyria Chronicles 2 right now. Yeah, the story has issues but the gameplay is fantastic, and I think it's a real improvement over the original (and I loved the original too). I'm not even sure how many hours I've put into it at this point. I'm sure if I was playing normally I would have beat it already but I'm doing every single side mission and character mission and trying to get A rank on everything.

I was hoping for something older and less expensive. I'll pick that up someday but now it's still 40 bucks

If you're looking for something older and less expensive, I'll second both the Star Ocean games - First Departure and Second Evolution, those are two of the games I sunk the most time into on my PSP. They're really addictive and easy to get into...good pick up and play.

There are actually a lot of great PSP titles. Many of them are ports, and many of them are Square Enix (surprised?! NOPE)
Here would be my full set of recommended PSP RPGs:
Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos (esp if you can get it for $10 or less)
Brave Story: New Traveler
Crisis Core: FF7
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days
FF Tactics: War of the Lions
Gurumin
Half Minute Hero
Jeanne d'Arc
Lunar: SSH
Persona
Persona 3
Star Ocean 1 and 2 (as everyone has said)
VP Lenneth
Yggdra Union
Ys SEVEN

All those look damn appealing.
Star Ocean 2 looks interesting. I would pick up Lunar but a friend just lent me the PSX version to play. Crisis Core and FFT already have.
Never heard of Aedis, I'll look that up.
Any great non rpg titles that may be obscure? Thanks for the help guys

everyone else pretty much took all that i have and was going to suggest but oh well~
i'm hoping to play guilty gear and patapon soon but probably won't.
Yggdra Union supposedly comes with Knights in the Nightmare for free once it comes out in november.
Wild Arms XF is also supposedly good.
half minute hero is excellent for playing only a few minutes or a few hours.
if you like puzzle games, you may like mercury/meltdown (seen videos of it that looked fun)
space invaders extreme is, again, excellent for a few minutes or few hours.
I personally like dissidia but must people seem to think it sucks or is just decent.
if you like minigames, work time fun may be a good suggestion.
phantasy star portable if you like hacking/slashing/shooting.
and wipeout if you like racing.

Great non-rpgs: Syphon Filter (both of them), and Burnout. Lots of others, too lazy to type them out, just like you were apparently too lazy to search for the previous threads where people have asked for PSP game recommendations. :D

Star Ocean 2 is classic fun. The battle system reining supreme - nothing feels better than when you can absolutely destroy bosses. The game hits a difficulty spike here and there too. The problem? Lots of pointless dialogue. It can be argued, everything up to the 2nd Kingdom is filler. After that, you're good. Also, TALK TO THE OLD MAN AFTER THE TOURNAMENT. Them's key words if you get it har har.
I picked up Kingdom Hearts PSP like right now. Can't wait, reviews have been great for it.
ALSO> IF YOU HAVE THE SPECIAL RED-CASE LITTLE BIG PLANET, I SOLD IT FOR $20 at my EBGAMES. I BOUGHT IT FOR $29.... WORTH It TRADE haha

It ended up on 62 Euros...which is about £58 (Please, don't make me figure out what that is in dollars). It came with a memory card, and some crappy football game I plan on loading off on a cousin I don't like as soon as possible. (I seem like a nice guy, he seems ungrateful of my generosity.)
It would have been 52 Euros but some mean lady bid on it at 20 secs, but I was watching for it. Hah, take that mean lady.
I assume it was a lady, could have been a transvestite from the bidding history.
