Why isn't the DS getting more RPGs

I mean like full flagship RPGs. it seems that the PSP gets more full content games like Crisis Core, FF Tactics, Jeanne d'Arc, Persona, Ys Seven and Kingdom of Hearts.
There just appears to be a severe lack of those kind of "high content" games on the DS.

Perceived audience? Poor graphical capabilities?

Both platforms are filled with ports, remakes and spin-offs.

I'd say the DS has a far better RPG lineup than the PSP.
The question should be, why are all the RPGs on the 360/PS3 mediocre and lacking in numbers.

Um, There are FF Tactics and Kingdom Hearts both available for the DS, and there's a fully fledged Shin Megami Tensei title (Strange Journey). You've got the following qulity released this year alone: Dragon Quest IX, Etrian Odyssey III, Infinite Space, Strange Journey, Pokemon, Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light.
There are even a couple of strong titles for the remainder of the year in Lufia and Golden Sun.
I'm not sure what you refer to as a "full content" game, because each one of those titles is oodles and oodles of gameplay time.

And people wonder why JRPGs are drying up there.

Thats not the issue though.Regardless of whether "good" JRPGs come or not,the grind-a-thon RPGs are going down with the genre altogether. My DS has plenty of grind games that do well but I still want those long lasting games on my consoles.I just want games that justify my money unlike the 6 hour single player games or the 4 hour single player game with a bloated online.Or something like that.

Length is one way to justify the cost, yes, but another way is pure enjoyment. I'd take Super Metroid and it's 5 hour (at an extreme!) length over many 50 hour RPGs.
Admittedly a lot of the games you're thinking of really aren't THAT fun (well, for me anyway) to justify $60.

I just made a blog post yesterday that flies in the face of the OP.
http://gameosaurus.com/roahr/?p=2285
I was looking for big-name RPGs and the ones that most stood out were actually the DS ones.
Just wait for Ni no Kuni. It's on DS and PS3, and both versions will probably be worthwhile. That should get us all to stop whining for at least two weeks.
(ugh we're all such persistent whiners)

You make a good point, maybe it is a personal thing but I always feel that DS RPGs are bit more bite-sized than the PSP ones which feel more like a full blown console experience. I think this is because of the difference of game design philosophy behind them. I played Valkyria Chronicles 2, Crisis Core and some other PSP games and they were really excellent.

Really? I mean, the answer is obvious to that question: Questionable playerbases and an high development cost. I would prefer to ask "Where are the RPGs on the Wii" but the Nintendo-only stigma seems to stink up the console regardless of how many tens of millions of systems they sell. Shit, even the RPGs Nintendo help fund/develop might not even come over here.
Edit: For the record I have a DS but not a PSP, so this may be the feeling of "Grass is Greener" :P

Same here. I think the bandwagon is turning into a full-fledged wagon train....I hope we make it before the family dies of dysentery or snakebites XD
