Yes, the title of this thread should be "Hockey, anybody?" I'm so happy the season is starting tonight! I got my fantasy hockey teams picked and I'm ready. Hockey season makes me smile :-P

Know what's funny? I HATE the Phillies. I mean HATE them. I'm a new yorker and love the yankees, but I hate those guys more than any other MLB team including Boston and even I was rooting for Doc last night. You can't help it. That's the second most amazing thing a pitcher can do, and a fantastic personal achievement.
I predict you guys will take the NL again this season. I'd love to see the Giants get somewhere for a change, but let's face it, it's gonna end up Phillies Vs Giants and that's gonna be a slaughter.
AL looks to be a little tighter of a race. I'm guessing Yanks take Twins, but other than that, it's anybody's game.

I'd love to see a Phils vs. Yanks rematch. Then again I'd be content with a Phils v. anybody World Series. :-)
As for hockey, I am also a big Flyers fan and am looking forward to their opener tonight. But baseball is #1 in my book.
Anybody who doesn't like baseball - I get it, I really do. It isn't the quickest of games. To the person who doesn't love it or enjoys faster sports, I can see why you'd prefer them. But it is to me the most poetic of the major sports, the most challenging, the one with the perfect cadence, the one that provides the truest metaphors. The journey begins when you leave home, and the challenge is making it back again.
Anyone who has never read Giamatti's short essay "Green Fields of the Mind" - do so. Even if you don't like baseball, it will probably make you understand why so many do.

It's the closest sport you'll find that reflects a turn based RPG

If Baseball is an RPG then what does that make the Cubs?
Slime? a Kobold from D&D?

I didn't see the game. I'm a huge baseball fan, but the fucking Tigers missed the playoff yet again. Leyland needs to be fired.

I dunno, Yanks have had sketchy pitching as of late, with the exception of Sebathia.
Texas scares me...

I do kind of get that vibe from Texas, the vibe of a team that has gotten really hot at the right time, could become media darlings (Nolan Ryan! clubhouse antics! Texas! Josh Hamilton!), but really only has one good pitcher and tons of hitting.
But this has been a year for pitchers and it looks like the playoffs are shaping up the same way with Lincecum's gem last night. Sadly it is getting lost a little bit in some unfortunate umpiring, but that's baseball too of course.
Psyched about Oswalt tonight.

Having the Blue Jays BARELY rake in any crowds, I love going to game for stupid cheap. Unfortunately, they're a bipolar team who kills it or tanks - and barely worth the time since they barely come out ahead.
The hotdogs and $8 beer is great. :P
Otherwise, go White Sox!

The Jays looked pretty solid this year. Good reason for optimism in Toronto.
I remember the days when the Phillies were terrible (it really wasn't THAT long ago) and playing in the Vet and you could get into the ballpark for free if you brought a package of Hatfield Franks with you. This was choice entertainment when pinching pennies through school.
Now if I want cheap baseball I watch the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5 minutes from home, but I still make sure to get to the Phillies a dozen or so times a year. Just costs more than a package of hot dogs now, winning does that to ticket prices I suppose. :-)

Dammit I hate you. NOTHING in New York is cheap.
My girlfriend took me to a Yanks Vs Jays game this year in Sept for my birthday. It was awesome. Mo is a blast to watch close.
Actually watching Tim last night reminded me of watching Mo in the way they both make hitters look stupid.
