I kept the fact I had a Facebook hidden from my family, the only people I have on it are you guys from RPGfan and some League of Legends friends. When my mum lost the baby though, I felt the need to monitor her mood, so I could be with her if she needed me.
She's better now.

Difficulty coping with time change. Spend most of work today reading election news and staring at floaters.
On the one hand I'm happy that gay marriage in states passed. On the other hand I'm sort of against marriage as a concept.
On the third hand

My limited experience with Facebook and family tells me the two shouldn't ever mix
Having (extended) family members on Facebook I must agree. Messages range from banal at best to some nasty political diatribes at worst. I'm far from Obama's biggest fan, but I am not even getting near Facebook for the next week or so so I don't have to listen to ranting about how the Commie Muslim rigged the election.

Its bizarre how the rural/urban divide has become conservative/liberal. I guess it's not that strange though. People who live in rural areas often do so to try and lead more traditional lifestyles, ie: conservative. But the bizarre thing is that the republicans tend to pass legislation that would more benefit the urban areas, where-as the democrats tend to pass legislation that more benefits the rural areas.
On the flip side, though, I see this as a very noble thing: voting ones mind instead of their pocketbook. I hate it when people only vote for someone because it benefits themselves, personally.
It wasn't always like this though, in the 10s and 20s, many of the rural areas were champions of labor movements and socialism. West Virginia, in particular was the central stronghold of the blue-colar labor movement. Now that state is as red as they come... although I hear that there are pockets of progressive labor areas that are constantly battling against large corporation land-grabs.
How things change.

I too hide my facebook from family members. Though facebook has been pretty amusing since Tuesday. Lots of we're doomed because of X reason(s) posts, lots of I'm going to Canada posts, lots of whining. The Canada posts always amuse me since Canadians don't seem to like their politicians either so that's not going to do them any good.

Thing is, none of that matters to conservatives if they're religious. The only thing religious people need or care to know is that the Republican candidate is anti-abortion and anti-gay and s/he will have their vote.
I realize I may be over-generalizing, but I used to spend a lot of time with religious people and that pretty much confirmed many times that those two things are their top priority in a candidate.

Oh god fuck my life.
I have to attend my friends' brothers rap gig.
I know nothing about rap but judging by his youtube video's, i don't think this will be a pleasant experience for me.
Appropriate Dresden Doll lyric :

it’s just me the bartender the waitress and the lights
shining on you not getting it right
we clap not for you but for your kind"

They broke up years ago, and I'm not feeling Amanda Palmers latest album much at all.

Also kind of strange to me since socialism would've be more beneficial in urbanized, industrialized areas in the 20s.
BTW what's with conservatives and Obama using a teleprompter? Who the hell DOESN'T use a teleprompter, and why's that matter anyway? At worst it means he... either doesn't have time to memorize speeches or isn't great at committing speeches to memory..?

Correct. And it's very unfortunate situation because many politicians that would otherwise not give a damn about gays or abortion feel the need to appease that base.

I read elections news at work a lot over the past two days.
The thing I'm testing -- basically I put an input file in a folder, modify it to contain data I need, feed it to a program, and check the output.
Here's the problem: I don't have access to the folder for the input file. I'm not allowed to modify the input file. I do not have permissions to run the program. I do not have access to the output folder.
So yeah. I AIN'T DONE SHIT.

Absolutely ridiculous. And ya know what they did before teleprompters? They stood in front of a podium with paper on it, and looked down at it every 5 seconds. Ya know what they did before that? Nothing... there wasn't a before that. Public speakers have been reading speeches since the dawn of the country. The only thing a teleprompter does is allow the speaker to connect with the audience a little better... that's it. Technology has been around since the 60s or 70s, and presidents have been using it the entire time.
So us musicians get to practice for weeks on end, years even, come up with a few hours of tunes and play them over and over again for years, committing them to memory, and we have bandmates to help jog your memory even then. A public speaker has to give a new speech (or 2, or 4) EVERY DAY! Who the hell is going to memorize that? If politicians had to commit all their speeches to memory, then our government would grind to a halt, because that's all they'd ever have time to do.
I haven't heard the teleprompter comments yet, but anyone whining about teleprompters in 2012 deserves to have every last bit of technology invented in the last 50 years stripped from their house, cuz it's about as hypocritical.

Repotted lime tree. Warm out, but windy. Lots of dirt blowing around. Black stuff now coming out of nose.
