Anyone have any thoughts on the best tv to get? Of course gaming is my main thing.
Panasonic viera class plasma, depending on the distance you'll be sitting away from it, minimally 50".

One with at least three channels. I hear they are coming out with colour TV but I don't know how I feel about that. I mean, I see colour in real life already, why does it need to be in my TV too? Also make sure the dial isn't too stiff (or too loose, god knows I've had my fair share of dials just pop right off).

I sold my Kindle Touch and it left me with just enough spare cash to buy a Kindle Paperwhite...and there is a Walking Dead marathon on. Today is a good day.
How's the refresh rate on that paperwhite? I was checking out a demo unit at best buy and it seemed like it took a while to turn pages
I don't have it in yet, so I'll have to tell you when it arrives. That said, the Touch has a good pretty refresh rate and I doubt they've gone backwards on that.
Got it in yesterday. The refresh rate is excellent, better than the previous Kindle. Must have been something odd with the demo unit.

Newer plasma tvs have better black levels than most other models, and seeing as you don't wanna spend 20,000 bucks on a sony 4k yet, the panasonics are pretty good bang for your buck.

Is a 60" from 6' too much?

It's bigger than your comfortable field of vision. You'd have to actually move your eyes to see other parts of the screen comfortably. You'd be more comfortable with a 50", as I think that's the smallest panasonic makes for those plasmas, and even then it's still a bit large. I'd recommend moving your couch or viewing seat back another 2 feet if possible, it will feel much more comfortable.
If you can, go to a store and just try looking at a tv the size you're thinking of from said distance. If you feel comfortable with it, go for that size and try amazon for a good deal.

You have good taste. Panasonics are wonderful.
Also, you might want to consider the Samsung's 55" OLED that might come out later this year. You can swing 8-9k, right?

OLED is the next step up for sure....but yeah, ouch on the price.
Fuck it all, drop 2500 on a 3d projector, mount it to a ceiling and point it at a flat white wall.

So Valve officially launched Steam for Linux today. In case I haven't mentioned it before I'm one of those dirty Linux users, so naturally I went and downloaded it...
"package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)"
Is this some sort of sick joke, Valve? You just launched a new gaming service
that only supports 10 year old CPUs
?! You have got to be kidding me...this is 2013. What kind of person even remotely interested in gaming doesn't have a 64 bit system by now? I would think if you were only going to support one architecture it would be 64 bit...

Reddit can be quite the cesspool of misogyny and homophobia at times, which is a shame because it can be really great at other times.
