I remember never playing a Squaresoft game to completion since (including) Chrono Cross.
I think some of us were "cross" with that Chrono game, LAWL
...Must not admit I lol'ed. Must no- FUCK!
The last Squeenix game I completed was (not including the CT DS port) Final Fantasy X.
The one reason I'm baffled at people not beating CT is because it's short and not very difficult. :P

Chrono Trigger = Dragon Fantasy (too bad Chrono Cross rules out Final Quest (although that hasn't stopped each and every FF from being the "Last" one)
Chrono Cross = A Pan-Dimensional Fan-Fic (to sum it up, imagine
this
after the game takes a massive plot dump that amounts to 'a wizard did it')

Be glad Chrono Trigger wasn't on the NES... or GameBoy Color.

This topic inspired me to replay Chrono Cross.
Its plot had some pacing issues, yeah, but it's not anywhere near bad. It's actually the polar opposite of bad. Good, even!
It would've benefited A LOT from voice acting, though, instead of the text accents we got...

Anyway, it's a dread that nobody knows the name for, like those little square plastic gizmos that close your bread bags. I don't know the name for those either."

I actually thought it could have really been benefited from being longer as well.
I hated the text accents... the mermaid's drove me nuts and same with the "CHA" family...
The game *is* good. For some reason, people think it ruins the novelty of Chrono Trigger... an odd statement for a generally simple plotted game (again, just wrapped in a fabulous concept).

I remember liking Chrono Cross well enough when I played it. A couple things about it really bugged me, though. I could not stand Kid. Horrible character with a horrible name! I also hated the regular battle music. Because both of these things were quite prevalent in the game, it was nowhere near as good as it could have been.
Chrono Trigger was fantastic, and a much better game, IMHO.

Asking for voice acting for that era is just asking for trouble.
Accents were lame though, but also a symptom of another problem. While it's similar to suikoden's gotta recruit 'em all, the suikoden games still had a core cast. CC doesn't, which is the games biggest flaw. It's Serge and a bunch of random guys.

CC had somewhat of a central cast. I mean on the most obvious level you have the Serge/Kid, Lynx/Harle dichotomy. I'd also say that Karsh, Viper, Radius, and Fargo had a pretty substantial degree of main-ness as well. Maybe Glenn as well.

If the original tales had a dub I'd rebuttal with it. Instead I'll just point to the shining force 3 thread :P
I do love that phantasia opening theme though.

I think this game is best summed up by a lyric from Devin Townsend's "Ziltoid the Omnicient"...
I AM A PUPPET!
I AM A PUPPET!
I AM A PUPPET!
I AM A PUPPET!
YOU ARE A PUPPET!
YOU ARE A PUPPET!
YOU ARE A PUPPET!
YOU ARE A PUPPET!
WE ARE ALL PUPPETS!
WE ARE ALL PUPPETS!
WE ARE ALL PUPPETS!
WE ARE ALL PUPPETS!
You have angered mighty Ziltoid. Phooey, I say, Phooey.

It's funny that gamers continue to debate about games that came out a decade/over a decade ago, like there was anything important left to be gained from it :(

Anyone else think Mint looked better in 90's anime style with blue? I dunno, I always thought her white-nurse robes were too obviously human (daresay, unoriginal). Arche also looked less of a disco dancer.
