Favorite Kung Fu Movies

Upon seeing the Favorite Samurai Anime/Movie, I had to make this thread because of how much I enjoy Kung Fu movies.  The action is great and some have stories and plots that are on par or even more complex than samurai movies.  I admit that in the newer Wujia flicks, the action is more over-the-top, but I prefer the old school style.  I know I'm not the only one to enjoy this genre, so have at it folks!

I've not seen enough chop-socky films.  Of course, anything Bruce Lee gets a nod from me.  I also found Ong-Bak really fun.  It felt like a good old-school chop-socky flick.  One Saturday I watched Hero, House of Flying Daggers, and Ong-Bak all in a row.

I really like Ong-Bak, because Tony Jaa did all of his stunts without wires.  That is amazing, if you see all the things he does in the movie.  I liked Hero also, more for the story than the fighting.  I didn't too much care for House of Flying Daggers though.

BTW, if you haven't seen the movies on my list, I HIGHLY recommend that you do.  You certainly won't be disappointed.

I remember watching a kung-fu video tape some guy gave me when I was about 5 over and over again. I don't remember who was in it. I don't remember what it was called.

Ong Bak is amazing.

Ever see the french movie District B13? Some excellent fights and action in that movie. Great stunts as well.


I watched  it on instant watch, if it's still up there check it out.

I guess Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon deserves a mention.  Sure there are plenty of wire-fu films that are better, but Crouching Tiger was still a damn good flick.  Then again, it's Chow Yun-Fat who's an epitome of awesome.

Though it's not on my list, I have watched Heroes of the East.  Gordon Liu and Yasuaki Kurata were great in that movie!  That Crab Style was HILARIOUS!

Yeah, they are both martial arts experts in real life.  I've watched so many movies that had either Gordon Liu or Yasuaki Kurata in them.  For Liu, other than the ones we've listed so far, I like 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, Master Killer, Shaolin and Wu Tang, and Challenge of the Masters.  For Kurata, I like Death Beach, Ninjas Deadly Trap, and Deadly Life of a Ninja.  I also have to give an honorable mention to my favorite David Chiang movie, Shaolin Mantis, which Gordon Liu had a cameo in. 

Are there any other kung fu flicks that you've seen or care to discuss?

For something newer... this is kind of lame but I really liked the film Flash Point. It was kind of cheesy but badass at the same time.

The way it was filmed just felt really unique to me. Pretty fun movie to watch.

Seems decent enough, so I'll check it out.  BTW Thoren, what would you consider your favorite kung fu movies?  Do you have a list?

Man I'm afraid I'm not the right person to ask for that. I just don't know enough martial arts movies in general, especially not Kung Fu.
