Figured I'd start a new one since that mega-thread is all over the place.

Just got this in the mail today based on the suggestions of most of you.

First impressions: (keep in mind this is my 1st console SMT game and I've played about 10 hours worth of Strange Journey)
-I'm surprised as to how deep the battle system is. I figured it'd be more or less like Strange Journey. Reverting to human form, combos, ammo types, devouring, getting extra attacks, losing attacks, etc. The level of strategy is intense.
-I love the leveling system for the Mantra. Very FFX and that's a good thing imo
-Interesting story premise. Purgetory, Nirvana. All my jams

The only thing I don't like is the music. So far it seems very "smooth jazz" :p

Don't you dare insult our clusterfuck of a thread :P

And yes, DDS is amazing.

You're wrong about the music though.

Yeah, give the music a chance. Sit back and listen to the exterior environments. It will grow on you.

I'm in Maribel now. That's some definite light jazz lol.

Game rules all sorts of ways though.

The music gets better. Glad you like the rest of the game though.

Hunting Comrades and Hari Hara are some of the best pieces of music I've ever heard in a video game. I dare anyone to listen to either of these tracks and not headbang.

I personally classified it as more of an ♪oontz oontz♪ sound with creepy magic-board and victory tune (but countered with awesome battle musics).

My one gripe with the series music is still that damn opening music for DDS2... I don't care how fitting the lyrics are.

Damn I just played DDS1 and 2 like a year ago and now I wanna play them again.  I still can't believe I put 60 hours into DDS1 just to get some +stat bonuses in DDS2.  It paid off, but man, that was a freakin' grind.

Since you've started a dedicated thread, I'll re-post these:-

Of course I can switch to 4:3 at any time. You can use component cables for a much improved picture quality if you intend to play on the actual PS2 system, but you're still getting 480p internal resolution with no filtering and Anti-Aliasing.

Those screenshots are @ 1920x1080 internal resolution with texture filtering and experimental hardware anti-aliasing (HW Anti-Aliasing) at 6, using DirectX 10. Even after taking these snapshots I still found new ways to make the game look even better.
