audiobooks? and or comedy albums

I have an ancient ipod and trying to manage playlists and juggle what I want on the paltry 4gb is growing old.

So I recently had the idea of getting some audiobooks for when I'm running, at the gym, or whatever. I don't need music to keep me moving, just something to distract my thoughts so I don't get bored.

Any ideas?

Thoughts? Prayers?

These days if there is a book, it comes with an audiobook.

Personally, I can never concentrate on an audiobook the same as a physical book.

I love me some radio plays though.

A local college station would play classic radio plays and comedy from the olden days. Some of that was pretty entertaining.

Check out http://librivox.org/ - it's the audio version of Project Gutenberg.  Free audio books of old stuff.  Plenty of good stuff to be found, although I admit that it can be spotty, quality-wise, because they're fan-made. 

I listened to Dorian Gray and it was done well. 

Then I listened to Mary Shelley's "The Last Man," and it was less good.  It's an extremely long/slow book, and each chapter is read by one of several people.  Some of them were pretty good, some of them were OK, and at least one was TERRIBLE.

In terms of comedy albums, two words: Mitch Hedberg.

Music has always made a lot more sense to me when it comes to the gym. Someone reading a book to me tells me to go to sleep more than to get pumped. I suppose I'd recommend just getting like non-fiction stuff you're interested in or yeah, comedy albums. Paul F. Tompkins's album Impersonal is hilarious so I'll throw that out there. Those audio books The Daily Show and Colbert have put out are probably funny.
