I'm not really that interested in brotherhood since it doesn't really advance the story from 2.

It does, not much, but it's definitely a part of what will be in store for the 3rd title.  If you can find it cheap, Lev, I recommend.  If you hate it, I'll....pay cook for you.

Dice or anyone, really: If I were to play me some AssCreed other than the PSP one and could presumably get a copy for cheap, what would you recommend? 2?

You'll like Assassin's Creed 2.  I'd bet money on it. :P

Yes, get the second one.  Its amazing.

Flamingrift - what exactly were you expecting in a stealth assassination game? There is no way you didn't know how it would play if you had seen the first one. Its not like it would be drastically different.

Assassinís Creed 2 was amazing, one of the best games released last year.

Having said that; Brotherhood hasnít really been on my radar. But Iím hearing so many good things about it, and I had so much fun with AC2, that Iíll almost certainly be getting it.

Going by what I hear from everyone: II. I did enjoy my time with the first one, but while I only got one assassination in I hear the rest of the game will be more or less the same as that first assination, and I recall Jeremy Parish talking about the first being squandered potential, then praising the sequel when it hit. There's probably a synopsis for 1 somewhere though, and if you can find it for $10 or something it's probably worth that much even if you don't play all the way.

I'm with FlamingR1ft here. Though I've only played the first AC. I too found it quite dull, and lacking in many aspects. I would like to give it another chance though, seeing as people are telling me to kill myself for not playing the second game. Then again, I think my gaming tastes are quite similar to FlamingR1ft, anyway.

Hmm. From reading the replies, it sounds like the first one was boring and turned a few off of the series, but that the second one is really good.

Which makes me wary of the first game. I will, however, see if I can get the second for cheap or a Christmas gift.

Thanks for the input. :)

Like I said.  If it's cheap, it's an experience.  The story is deep, for all your RPG-story-thrill-seekers, and cleverly combines faith and science into something quite shocking.  The first game exchanges gameplay for art, the second game reverses that with more gameplay, but presented less cleverly (but still well done).  Ubisoft has consistently learned from their mistakes and only work on making the experience better, the third is a testament to that.

The game is fun, and maybe as an art student I'm too bias to this, but you explore the Renaissance!  It's beautiful.

I wonder how you can post this one minute and tell off others for not giving games you like a chance the next.

My theory is that only people who played the first game directly after it's release (and the glorious hype train) felt really burned. I played it last fall, and while I saw it's faults, I didn't really find anything hateable about it. I think if it hadn't been hyped to death, people would have played it for what it was, and generally said, "oh, this game is kind of cool, a bit repetitive, but some really interesting things". Instead it's, "OMG this game isn't the second coming of Pizza Jesus the Third!" I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but I really had some fun with it, far removed from it's initial hype. No question the second was far better and improved (instant GOTY material), though.
