Number Two's eyes narrowed and became what are known in the Shouting and Killing People trade as cold slits, the idea presumable being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.

I listen to so little music these days, but Serj from System of a Down is among the few groups still making new music.

His Nu-Metal background probably turns you off, but I love it.  He is heavy on the orchestra this time.

SOD is NU-metal? I always thought they were just a rock band with a sense of humor.

I'm with you on that.  They were called gimmicky, but I bought their CD's and put their stickers on my skateboard.

I'm not a huge fan, but their first two albums were pretty good. The term nu-metal brings to mind a band like Linkin Park, who, along with acts such as Limp Bizkit, are responsible for ruining many bus rides home after school for me.

I don't mind his solo stuff but I really wish S.O.A.D. would get back together.  Hypnotize and Mezmerize were friggin' brilliant.  Funny that when they first came out I couldn't stand them.

I like SoaD - Toxicity (the album) a lot. It's one of my more incongruous music tastes.

Also I know they're supposed to be nu-metal but they always struck me more as glam revival or something. Serj's particular vocal stylings are really not that far removed from early-70s Brian Eno or pre-Berlin, post-Hunky Dory Bowie. Compare Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch, Ziggy Stardust, and, I don't know, Pogo. Or Roxy Music's Virginia Plain for that matter. The underlying music styles are pretty different on all of them, but the vocals share a very similar flavor of acrobaticity. Particularly in terms of penchants for rapid pitch shifts, sudden switches between 'chest' and 'head' vocalization, etcetcetc i am fucking babbling oh god what

The salient point is that several songs on Toxicity had banjos on them.
