Which Final Fantasy Has The Best Story and Why?

I'm really just asking for a fan's opinion on this, and you don't have to have played them all, really just asking out of the ones you have played. Also, to any potential smart alecks, I don't even care if you think they all suck. In that case which one sucks the least?

As for my two cents...that's about all I got. I have only played one game in the series from start to finish (Final Fantasy XIII with my brother, and I actually quite enjoyed the story), so I can't really comment on what game has the best just yet.

The only ones I've beaten are I and IV. Back then I thought the stories were amazing, but then again I and IV are the among the first two RPGs I've played.

7, 8, and 10 I thought were interesting but I think I just got tired of them. Then again I played them in my early to mid teens and probably just didn't have the patience for RPGs. In fact I rented 10 twice, didn't beat it, then didn't play RPGs again until Oblivion a few years ago.

It was touching, funny, epic and all that other good stuff.

Well "best" is subjective but if I had to give my opinion I'd say Final Fantasy X probably had the most interesting story.

It's the one with the time travel and the memory manipulation and they were all in an orphanage together but they dont remember and they have a flying school and then they are in space to free a witch to stop the monsters falling from the moon and OMG-MAKE-IT-STOP

Goddamn mess... 

IV cute and primitive plot of an evil kingdom.  Good characters though.
V was sweet and innocent.  I  liked the multi-worlds
I liked VI for the sort of early political agenda plot. 
VII because it did get deep.
Something happened here but it makes my head hurt.
IX was fun, pretty, and showed a lot - a great adventure. 
X, fine it did have a good story.

8's story is shit. Thankfully, most of the game focused on individual character portrayal, which I thought was the best in the series.

But if we're talking plot, specifically? They all sucked. At least FF6 probably had the least amount of face-palms. I love FFIX, but it takes some real crapper's in the flow towards the end. FFX was a tad padantic and drawn out.

Gotta go with FF6, but they all suck. Play games for characters, dialog, setting, and gameplay.
