Bad Language on the boards??

Was just wondering how come you guys aren't moderating these boards? Theres quite a few postings on here that need to be deleted because of Bad Language or other stupidity....

You're kidding, right?  If you can't handle the language we use, then don't read.  We're not breaking any rules, and you shouldn't concern yourself over it.

As for the general stupidity, that's how we are.  I know the internet is serious business, but I like to think we can fuck around a little bit and have some fun.

Look at it this way:

The average board (GameFAQs, etc) is going to be an E, 10+, or maybe T rated board.

RPGFan's boards are M rated.  While we disallow inline images of things like pornography, etc, bad language and general asshattedness isn't against the rules.  We moderate when it becomes neccesary, not when someone uses a bad word.  We assume that the average person on this board is mature enough to read some bad words.

Sartori: It would've been best to ask what the policy is for cursing or why we don't care around here; just coming in and telling the moderators to run around deleting posts, disregarding that not all places would be run the same, is extremely rude and demanding. :P

I like the fact that these boards are M rated.  I hope that never changes.  I happen to like the fact that I do not have to moderate my language here so strictly as I do on other boards.  Interestingly enough, on most of the boards I visit, foul language isn't generally moderated.

The "objectionable" language and such present among board members is nothing worse than any 10 year old will hear on the schoolyard, in popular music, or on TV.  But, yes, certain red flag words will receive penalties, like if a person expresses content that is blatantly racist or prejudiced and uses offensive words like "niggar" or "kike" or anything like that.  

As to when words are just words and when they are daggers is purely a judgment call.  It is common in the vernacular that some terms that were derogatory in the past have become more commonplace in the present but can still be offensive when used in certain contexts.  

I don't expect every reply to a topic to be 100% on topic.  We're all RPGfans, but we're friends too and when you're talking to a group of your friends, sometimes conversations may meander or go into side tangents.  If it wanders too much then, yeah, someone will step in.  

But that's not to say we don't have codes of decency and ethics.  We do.  For example, John said that inline images of pornography and the types of ultraviolent images you see on rotten.com are not allowed.  Pointless topics such as list threads, happy birthday threads, or "hi im new" threads are not allowed either since they don't promote discussion.  

I know some people are more sensitive to bad language than others.  But if one's virgin eyes feel violated every time they see the word "fuck" said person will have to develop a thicker skin because it comes with the territory of the community.  Besides, I think most word filters are useless.  They censor words like cockpit.

I say, as long as member do not insult others vugarly with innuendos of giant potatos, I say go ahead and say what you want... if its (mostly) on topic.

With that said, how bout I ******* with ***** you ******** peice of rotten ********* and a ***** cow shooken ****** **** ****** damn little ****** with ****** so **** your ***** God da****** go to **** and eat some ****** cuz **** is ****** and all that **** is just ***** with all those tickets to the movie Brokeback Mountain.
