I LOVE this game. It's a bit short by the looks of it. I probably have 6 hours into it and am 40% done, but it well deserves the good ratings it's getting.

I beat the game about 30 minutes ago and to make it simple, it's amazing!
I think I'll write a review for it for my blog but just in advance, there were some moments I was so engaged into it I found myself screaming along with Lara and reaching my arms to grab that ledge.
For some reason I decided to play this game using my high end headphones I acquired recently  and the sound is amazing. It's so life like, it really makes you feel you're in that island.

If anyone here is on the fence about getting this game, please, do yourself a favor and get the game, this year just started and I think I already have a candidate for GOTY.

I just got the game and only got to the M O U N T A I N   V I L L A G E  (apparently the first really large open area). AND DAMN, this game is *bleeping* amazing. The "tutorial" sets the tone for the game. Its intense and keeps you tense with suspense all throughout the game. And the game is SO brutal to poor Lara. I really like how her visuals change based on the beating she takes in each area.

And man does Lara Croft know how to take a beating. I wonder how many times I'm going to ask, how did I live through that? And forget dual pistol, the bow has just become Lara's iconic weapon.

Also, I like how you see Lara go from panicking, to building up her courage, to kicking ass. It makes her seem more real than the standard fearless protagonist we typically see in action video games.

3.4 million units just wasn't enough. Gotta recoup that money somewhere.

I seriously don't see what people are so up in arms about.  They're just making it cost the same as any other game in Japan.

The real issue here is how bloody expensive games are in Japan, but it's been like that forever...

PS: As an importer I'm seriously glad the value of the yen has taken a nosedive.  Used to be a retail release in Japan could be over $100 after doing the conversion.  Now we're finally back to roughly $1 = 100 yen.

PPS: I reread the NeoGAF thing.  WTF is the OP talking about when he makes it sound like they went out of their way to remove the Japanese voiceovers?  They just stuck to the English because that was what was already there.  The Japanese version of the game isn't out yet, but they're giving people the option to basically get the US version and then patch it to Japanese as soon as that's ready.  Which, pricing aside, is actually pretty cool.

Tomb Raider:
$50, NA: http://store.steampowered.com/app/203160/?cc=us
$50, Japan: http://store.steampowered.com/app/203160/?cc=jp

(Blatantly stolen from GAF)

Your argument doesn't work.

Wow, way to completely miss the point.  That link you gave is for the English version of the game.  It's the same price in Japan because it's exactly the same game.  In fact that's the whole reason they're doing this patch thing...

Trying comparing it to the price of other Japanese games.  Or the retail release of Tomb Raider for that matter.

My apologies; you are right. I didn't put much effort into that search. Tomb raider in Japan does come up to about 90$ US depending on the exchange rate.

If I was Japanese, I'd just play the English version at this point =/

I thought japanese games generally released at like 5200 yen, or maybe 6800, been a while since I really looked at prices for games I couldn't play in a currency I didn't make.

I believe most newly released games are closer to the 9000 yen mark.
