Papering Over the Cracks - A Short Poem

Something I recently wrote, I'm fairly happy with it. Any and all comments welcome!

Papering Over the Cracks
Ever more frequently each day,
in the mirror I check my reflection
run fingers like a ploughshare
over the furrowed field of my face.
I decide to have the living room decorated,
revive the old Victorian house – I sit upon
a paint-stained blanket that covers my armchair –
look about me, the familiar room laid bare.
My granddaughter visiting, and seeing all the
mess, picked up and stuck a piece of wallpaper
across my face. Sitting her upon my knee
I begged an explanation – ‘I’m just
papering over the cracks,’ she said.

ZOMG! Hilarious, haha.
I really like your presentation of growing older, as looking in the mirror and noticing the ageing is something I'm sure many people do as they get up in the years. And since I'm an advocate of, "Just because it is saying something doesn't mean it can't be funny," I like it even more.
There's also the ambiguity of the last two lines. Is the little girl doing this out of caring? Or is she basically saying, "You're flippin' old grandpa."?
Nicely done.

That totally isn't poetry.
Seriously though, I really love this one. The way you use abstract ideas to represent otherwise general ideas is fantastic.
