I took 25 hours just to beat the game, then 25 on my immediate replay to get all the characters and the best ending. MAYBE 30, but I think you just illustrated the point that it's probably better to just play the game and enjoy it without sweating whether you're doing it "right" or not; you'll be more familiar and thus crush the game much more easily on a replay anyway.

Grahf, Id, and Miang from Xenogears.

Grahf and Id personified destruction.  While Id did it for pure enjoyment, Grahf did have his motives. 

Miang was very subtle with hers, but also effective.  Who can justify torturing a child?

Albedo from Xenosaga is my top fav. villain ever! Real Freak & Madman!
I also like Seifer as villain. Not like he's the greatest badass, but he was pretty cool.

Since this came back up, I am playing Suikoden 2 slowly (damn you WoW).
About 10 hours in, and I am so glad to have my castle, finally my towns will stop getting burned.
