Well, think about this... has any Nintendo DS update really grabbed you SINCE the DSLite? They gimped the DSi by removing the GBA slot, and the DSi XL is just a larger/heavier version, which some don't want. The DSLite was so definitive because the first design of the DS wasn't all that great. Then they happened on the DSLite body style, which they found really worked. The 3DS will have the DSLite body style from the start. I imagine they'll find other ways of updating it, but I doubt it will be the big definitive jump that the DSLite was, and it probably won't be so soon after launch. Mostly, I just see internal memory upgrades, but since this comes with an SD slot, who cares?

All of you waiting for the 2nd generation are just not that interested in the system in the first place, which is fine. But don't expect an update to change your opinion drastically, I doubt that will happen in this case.

You put my thoughts into eloquent words.

Also, the 3DS is going to have downloadable GB games on the shop.

If it turns out it has downloaded GBA games too, the 3DS is going to be quite awesome. But I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't if they're going to have normal GB games.

$250 = 250 euro

Fuck you!

Don't forget about those lovely region locks.

I'm going to buy one, but only because I have to. And I'm totally going to write it off as a business expensive.

Not going to get one right away, because as usual I like to wait until I'm interested in a number of titles, not just one or two. I've never played Layton, but that's actually what interests me the most right now. Maybe OoT to some extent. Sorry, Devil Survivor.

When I DO get one though, it's going to be that teal one. All my systems are black and white. Need to mix it up.

Don't go making up dumbass assumptions and acting as if they're fact. There's plenty of people that are just following what's logically sound without letting hype and gadget lust consume them, or at least know they should wait until there's enough games they want to play (the lite came out shortly after the DS truly became worthwhile).

And... yeah, I think the DSi's a solid upgrade. DSiware's been a mostly wasted opportunity, but the screens and sound were notably improved and by the time it came out I had mostly stopped playing GBA games anyway.

How was the screen and sound improved? I haven't noticed a difference, and technically the screen on the DSi is smaller (though not by much). I'm really happy with the speakers on the DSlite (although the DS fat was better) all of them beat the pants off the speakers my brand new PSP 3000. And I still play loads of Metroid Zero Mission, Golden Sun, and FF6 on GBA carts. So I dissagree that GBA is not worthwhile. I'm keeping around my DSLite for just that.

And all I'm saying is that if they wait for anything, it should be games, not the gear update. The fact that the DSLite came out at the time that a lot of good games came out was coincidence and irrelivant. The only system I ever purchased at launch was my Wii, so I'm not huge on the new system hype train. But IMO, this is probably the strongest lineup I've ever seen from a new console, handheld or any, so I think there's a good reason to purchase it on launch.

The sound improvements were outlined in an Iwata Asks feature, and the screen IS larger, although it is a subtle increase compared to what the XL introduced. Admittedly the sound improvement is best appreciated with headphones on, it comes out much cleaner than on the DS lite.

Oh, and there you go again putting words into people's mouths! Except more direct this time; I'm not saying the GBA is "not worthwhile" but that I've mostly stopped playing it, meaning more that it's not a feature I really need on the DS anymore. I grabbed a used Micro around the time I got a DSi for the sake of playing GBA games, and haven't offloaded my lite or phat anyway.

It's a useful reference point. Usually the hardware updates come out between a year or two years of the system's release, which is long enough for a system's library to bloom. Even with a strong launch lineup, well, the new games can easily turn out to be disappointments (Red Steel anyone?) while the ports are, well, ports. Hell, the PSP had a pretty good launch lineup, then it immediately dried up for a long while.

Edit: Oh, yes, and people may simply want to wait on a more convenient time to grab the system.

Edit 2: Actually, another reason to wait; they will work out kinks in the meantime, such as implanting the damned internet functionality. Why they can have this good to go for the Wii/DSi but not the 3DS is kind of baffling.

I want the 3DS as much as the rest of you, but I'm gonna wait until the price drops and more games that I really want come out. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to get it right away. I still regret getting the DS so early.

The pros and cons of buying Nintendo DS/3DS games from particular regions

Quote
EU:
+ Several exclusive English language games
+ Dirt cheap week one sales if you're in the UK
- Significantly higher software pricing if not
- Many US games not localized

JPN:
+ Largest software library
+ First releases
- Very high cost for importing games if you're not in Japan
- Many US games not localized
- Japanese language required

USA:
+ Largest English language library
+ Lowest day one prices across all software
- NOA and select third parties suck at localizing stuff

With a bonus if you're out of region:
- No warranty support
- Shipping cost to import games
- Possibility of getting burned by having to import an expensive copy of a game that's cheap in-region

*sigh*

.

Some people are saying that it has one of the best launch line-up ever, I'm not sure if they're looking at the same list I'm looking at. Are they expecting Resident Evil Revelations, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing etc etc to come day one?

"Actually, these lines aren't for the 3DS itself, but for pre-orders. Nintendo officially kicked off pre-orders today at retailers nationwide."

That makes a lot more sense...

Still, that's a friggin long line for a preorder.
