So I can pay $250 for a 3DS
or $300 for A PS3 120gb

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Fuck you Nintendo

I've seen this argument already, but I don't really like it.

This choice may make sense to you, who may not own a PS3 and doesn't really want a 3DS. But it doesn't make sense to people that may not want a PS3, like handhelds more, or already own a PS3.

Ironically I thought the same thing when I first saw the price.

So I can pay $250 for a region locked 3DS
or $300 for a non-region locked PS3 120gb

I made your sound argument more sound.

Honestly, it is a reasonable choice for me. With the two FFXIII games coming out, ICO collection, TLG, then Heavy Rain, MGS4, Uncharted 1+2, BluRay etc. The PS3 is looking better and better. I already have a DS and PSP, so maybe I don't need another handheld right now. PS3 may be the way to go.

For those who think it's an unreasonable price, remember that the PSP Go launched at around the same price.(as did the original psp). I think considering all the new features, graphics and backwards compatibility, I think the price is decent.

I'd emphasis the original PSP over the go because, well, the go was an awful idea and would only solidify the argument that $250 is way too much.

Not that comparing to the original PSP is really much better.

Thanks buddy.

It's just ridiculous that a goddamn handheld with the power of a lineup somewhere around the PS2 is costing the same price if not more than any of the current gen home consoles.

And the PSP Go was a miserable fucking failure

Personally I thought the Go was a fine idea with an awful implementation...and the price was a big part of that.  Also the price of the games.  (Why the heck should anyone pay more for a digital download than a retail copy?!)

Honestly, I don't think that $250 is totally unreasonable for the 3DS, but I'm still not going to get one because the launch lineup fails to interest me at all.  It's usually best to wait a couple years after a system is released anyway.

The fact that a handheld has reached the power levels of a PS2 is pretty amazing if you ask me. Besides, the PS3 and 360 have been out for years now. This a brand new handheld. I don't see anything wrong with the price.

Ok, that's more accurate. If it were a cheaper DD only system then it'd change from "awful idea" to "great idea no one cared about" maybe. As things stood though, it was useless beyond serving as an incentive to release games both in retail and in digital formats.

$250 was too much for the PSP, and it's still too much now for a 3DS. At least from my perspective.

Good point. I forgot about the PSP's sales.

If you think $250 is too much let me remind you that 250 euro = $336.5
Currently playing: Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, Team ICO Collection, Atelier Totori, Child of eden.

The price really isn't an issue for me. That being said, I won't pick this up at launch due to the fact that Okamiden, Dragon Quest VI, and Radiant Historia are all due out just before the 3DS. Chances are, I'll only grab one of those games. I'll probably wait until the end of the year to get it.

Since this topic has devolved mostly into a discussion of price I have a question for you guys. What do you think the price of the next-gen consoles is going to be? My guess is $400+ (Nintendo will probably cap it at $300-350). In this context, the 3DS price doesn't seem that high.
